Shadow smiled at Eryn, "Goodnight, little one."
And fell asleep.

Hands grabbing for her, reaching and grasping, leaving bruises and pain in their wake
“Come here little one,” a sickly sweet voice called. “We won’t hurt you, I promise. We promise ever so nicely.”
Fear.
That was all that existed at the sound of those voices. Only mind numbing, courage gnawing fear.
She was running, running, running as fast as she could, but it wasn’t fast enough. The hands grabbed her and pinned her squirming body to the ground; then there was the feeling of acid running over her face and she began screaming.
Eryn sat straight up, screaming, pushing away from Shadow and moving as fast as she could into the other corner, as far away from the werewolf as she could get on the bed.
Pain.
The feeling ripped across her face and the left side of her body, burning, always burning. Eryn whimpered and buried her face in her hands, grasping at the left side of her body and contorting her body as the pain continued ripping through her, continuing to scream and gasping for breath.

((Let's just go with my last post for now, I modified it a bit, so go look at it again, please. Sorry, Arisen, trying to get back into the swing of things.))

Shadow jumped as Eryn screamed, "Eryn? Calm down little one. Whats wrong?"
He sat up, scratching his head, "Tell me whats wrong, little one."
~~~~~~
Arsen pulled her close, burying his face in her hair.
"I love you too, Jaenelle," Arsen said, rubbing her back, "And... I do want to have another child. But now... I don't think now is the time..."
He kissed the top of her head, "Lets go to sleep love. We need to sleep. As do I. Come. Lets go to bed."
Eryn did'nt understand what Shadow was asking her; his voice was too loud, too close, tood different. The shifter whimpered and scrabbled farther away from Shadow, leaning up against the wall a tthe edge of the bed, almost falling of off the edge because of how close she was to the edge.
"Get away from me!" she snarled, swiping her claws at him when he came too close. "I didn't do it, damnit! I didn't steal it, stop hurting me! I DID NOT FUCKING STEAL FROM YOU! SHE'S LYING! CAYA'S LYING!!!"
Eryn leaned against the wall, chest heaving, staring sightlessly ahead of herself, crying. The little shifter curled in on the left side of herself, tring to protect it from Shadow, trying to stay away.
~~
Jaenelle leaned backwards into Arsen and finally nodded.
"Let's sleep. For now," Jae said after a while, lying back into the bed and curling up under the covers. "We will talk about this later, though, okay?"
The vampiress looked up at her mate carefully, gauging his mood.
"Promise?"
"Caya...? Eryn, tell me whats wrong. What did my sister say?" Shadow kept his distance, "Tell me, please."
~~~~~~
"I promise," Arsen gave a small smile, kissing her forehead.
"Things'll get better, Jae. You'll see. Soon, all of this will be an unpleasent memory. You'll see," He laid next to her, sighing, "You'll see."

"Caya....Daemonar, she's lying! I didn't do it!" Eryn cried out as the remembered blows rained down on her and her muscles twiched, seizing up and making the pain even more harsh. "CAYA!!!! Why, why did you do this to me? Why?"
The little shifter's voice was broken.
"I served you, I took care of you. I defended you to the other servants, the other ladies. I took beatings for you and then, you threw me to the dogs," Eryn sobbed out. "And, for what? A king that you can never have? His mate is pregnant, Caya!"
The little shifter continued sobbing uncontrollably, all the pain and heartbreak she'd been holding in at her master's betrayal flooding out. Eryn finally was pulled out of her reverie and sat, panting on Shadow's bed, tears still streaming down her cheeks. When she saw Shadow's face, she wanted to start crying; this must have been the brother that Caya had talked of with such fondness, no wonder he had seemed so familiar, had been so loving. He was Caya's Shadow and he would side with her, not with some little shifter that'd been thrust on him two hours ago.
Eryn snarled helplessly, whining for a moment before launching herself off of the bed and racing to the door of Shadow's home, tearing it open and beginning to race outside.
~~
Jaenelle sighed disconsolatedly before lying down and relaxing onto the bed and then pulling Arsen's head onto her chest gently, as with old times.
"Sleep," she whispered after a moment, lacing her musical voice with the vampiric charms that the First had taught her. "Sleep."
Soon this will all be an unpleasant memory...

Shadow's face fell once Eryn was done. Once she had ran for the door he vaulted after her, "Eryn! Eryn, wait!"
~~~~~
Arsen gave a small smile and soon, his purring snore filled the room.
And this time, a nightmare didn't wake him.
Eryn scrambled out the door and began racing down the street, tears blinding her sight. The refugees that she raced past were nothing; she didn't care anymore, it didn't matter. No where was safe; there was no one who wanted her and no where she could go. Suddenly, the little shifter crashed into a solid body and the air whooshed out of her lungs as she hit the ground, hard.
The tears continued to leak out of her eyes, blinding her a litlte, but when she heard the voice that accompanied the body, Eryn started scrambling away.
"Hey little girl, remember me?" Gareth said lecherously as he reached down and grabbed the little shifter's wrist. "You want to have fun with me again?"
"NO!!" Eryn snarled weakly, tugging on her arm uselessly and scratching the greasy werewolf's arm with her claws.
~~
Jaenelle smiled fondly down at Arsen and continued to run her hands through his dark hair, even as he continued to purr-snore gently.
He's so skinny... she thought fondly, a little worried about how much weight loss that her mate had managed within the few months that she hadn't seen him.
Suddenly, there was a tug on some of the charms that were tied into her hair; the ones that alerted her to trouble at the Child's Sanctuary. Slowly, Jae extricated herself from under Arsen and then stood at the side of the bed, watching him quietly for a moment. Then she leaned over and kissed his forehead, breathing, "Sleep." once more before flitting out of their bedroom.
Sorry Arsen, something's wrong with the kids and you need to sleep....I don't want to wake you up. I love you, be safe. I'll see you in a couple months, I guess, since we probably won't be able to go hunting until then.
Shadow caught up with Eryn as Gareth caught her. Now, Shadow never had been fond od Gareth and the feelings were mutual.
"Let her go," Shadow snarled. He was just about to slam his hands over Gareth's ears when there was an explosion near the sanctuary, "No!"
He acted Gareth swiftly, took Eryn from his grasp, and ran for the sanctuary.
~~~~
Arsen wasn't sure what woke him up, Jaenelle leaving or the explosion, but he was suddenly hurling toward Gaurdian, shouting orders.
If Arsen was right, Jaenelle would be with the children.
And Daemonar laughing from his kingdom as he watched the fire seep through the ruins.

Eryn startled at the sound of the explosion; one minute, Gareth had ahold of her wrist and the next she was being swept up into Shadow's arms and raced towards the Children's Sanctuary.
"What's going on? What's wrong?" Eryn managed to get out after getting over the initial shock.
The speed at which Shadow ran was incredible and Eryn's black cat ears were being blown backwards by the speed. The little shifter squirmed a little in the werewolf's uncomfortably tight grasp before grabbing on to his shirt.
Shadow had come after...that had to mean something right?
~~
"NOOO!" Jaenelle roared out, speeding up her pace and flat out sprinting for the ruins where the Sanctuary had been housed were. The charms that were tied into her hair were beginning to tug on her scalp painfully and were making her eyes water with their intensity; something was definitely wrong.
The vampiress watched as clouds of dust rose above the ruins and wanted to begin crying anew; all their hard work would be for nothing. This was the generation of children that they were supposed to be giving the world back to. These were the children that would inherit whatever world that the rebellion managed to create, and they were being destroyed.
The site of the explosion was a black crater in what had used to be a small green area; at night, they had used it for a playplace for the kids, allowing them a few hours of care free playtime as trusted guards watched the perimeter and scouted around to make sure that no one came near the children. But even the guards didn't know where the children came or went from, and they were forbidden to speak to each other. So how did they find out?
As Jae skirted the crater, she heard a loud popping sound that made her turn around- the first bullet caught her by surprise and made her body jerk as it hit her stomack, but the second she avoided easily, though panting hard.
Daemonar... was all she could think as she watched the vampiric imperial troops climb through the rubble before turning and racing on. Only that bastard would do this...
The once-Hunter reached the hidden entrance to the Sanctuary, pausing a moment to listen for movement inside and, hearing none, assumed the children had not yet been found. Assessing that no one was in the vicinty, Jaenelle quickly slipped inside where she was greeted by a gruesome image.
The children... was all that Jae managed to think before dropping to her knees and staring at the carnage around her.
There were at least ten bodies lined up on the floor, each with their throats ripped out, their chests brutally cracked open and their hearts lying in their hands.... and their blood splattered across the walls and each other.
Jaenelle stood there, staring at the sight before meeting the eyes of the lone vampiric soldier that stood behind all this carnage; the guard was standing there uneasily, one of the children with brown eyes wide and scared, face marred with bruises and tear tracks, kneeling in front of him. Worst of all, there was a gun pressed to the back of the child's head, cocked and loaded, though the soldier didn't need a gun to finish the job that he had so obviously been told to do.
"I was sent to deliver a message," the vampire said after a moment of watching Jaenelle warily.
"Well, what is it?" Jaenelle's voice was surprisingly cold and devoid of emotion; her glassy eyes focused on the ten bodies lined up so neatly on the floor.
Suddenly, Daemonar's deep voice pierced the silence that had fallen in the Sanctuary, making Jae look up slowly into the eyes of the king who was possessing the soldier.
"Are you watching closely, Jaenelle?" the Vampire King asked. "I just made all of your children disappear in one flash, just like I did with Larial. And, guess what, this time it is your fault. It was your selfish desire to go out with Arsen tonight; it's your fault that these ten are dead. And it will be your fault when all of the children that I have taken die. And they will die, Jaenelle, unless you do something for me...just a tiny little thing really."
By now, Jaenelle was shaking, unable to cage the feelings that were rising up inside her; all these children, this child- Carson, the little boy that had the gun muzzle digging into the back of his head and whose eyes were pleading with her to save him. All those children, Jaenelle knew them by name, all of them were like Larial; she had failed with her son and she could not fail these children whom she looked after in his stead. Jae just couldn't; her shoulders slumped and a breath left her, shaking her whole frame. When the green-gold eyes looked up again, they were dull and dead.
"What are you asking?"
~~
Far away, Daemonar laughed.

"Explosion," Shadow panted, "Hold on."
If there was one thing Shadow was afraid of, it was fire. And now, he was heading toward the heart of hit.
"Jaenelle!" Shadow heard Arsen scream.
"I got her!" Shadow called.
"Get thd documents!"
Shadow snarled and changed his direction, heading for the headquarters He caught sight of Remus and followed him.
~~~~~
"Jaenelle!" Arsen was shoving through the crowd, "JAENELLE!"
He ran toward the sanctuary. Just as the bullets exploded around him.
"Jaenelle!" He didn't see anything but the sanctuary.
He burst through the door as the roof collapsed against his shoulders. He cried out as he held it up.
Eryn held on all the tighter when Shadow said to and then squinted a little in the darkness, looking over at the other figure racing to where Shadow had diverted his attention to.
"Remus?" she wondered quietly before looking up at the werewolf. "What can I do to help?"
~~
BOOM! The explosion rocked the building, not even making the girl on the ground stir.
Jaenelle didn't even turn her head when the roof began collapsing, letting the world fall in around her. She didn't turn when she hear Arsen screaming her name and even winced away from the sound, away from him. Daemonar had just issued her an ultimatum, a painful one, in order to save all those children; the soldier who had told her this was long gone, dragging Carson out after him, the little boy glaring at her with accusing eyes, even as he left her, shackled to the floor and looking at him longingly.
Why couldn't I save him? Why couldn't I save just one fucking kid? her mind growled disconsolately, looking at the chains that were ensaring her wrists at the moment.
Jaenelle was watching helplessly from the floor as the guard shackled one of her wrists to the wall and then set a timebomb set for one minute against the far wall. She was in so much damn pain! Whatever the hell had hit her was draining her powers and leaving her mortal and defenseless; this crazy vampire was going to kill her.... and she would die alone and knowing that she had failed in protecting those children. As the guard turned back around, Jae tried to snap and snarl, but it came out weak and groggy- what had this bastard done to her?
"Just to make it hard. You understand, right, Jaenelle? We've got to give him a bit of a challenge. You've got to act like you still love him and are going to be with him forever; you're going to be the happiest couple there ever was, do you understand?" Daemonar asked through his guard's body. He was laughing now.
"I knew one of the bullets would hit you, at least one. Do you know why, Jaenelle? They're anti-vampire weaponry, stolen from the Hunters, but- right, you already knew that. That slug in your belly Jaenelle, that bullet was made by your brother and his little friend. Made especially for you; it will incapacitate you long enough to give you this," at this point the guard squatted down next to her, one hand still wrapped around Carson's neck, but the other reaching out to grab her around the neck, around her bite area; Jaenelle groaned weakly. "Yes, that anti-vampire magic is quite nasty isn't and you, being an ex-Hunter, would know all about it, wouldn't you? It attacks a vampire's mortality and will render them mortal for up to a week, isn't that right? Especially for a little half-breed like you." Daemonar's laughter turned caustic and his expression thoughtful. "But, enough with this, I have a sealing mark to place and a burning city to escape."
The guard's hand squeezed Jae's throat and she gasped weakly, struggling against him and the magic exuding from the bullet. Suddenly, burning pain ripped through her throat; acid against her skin, burning her up slowly, like fire or needles; gods, it burned!!! Jaenelle screamed and when it was all over, it left her panting.
"There you go, little one, helpless to me now. You're bonded to me, Jaenelle, only me now. Arsen's bond with you is gone; oh, don't worry, he'll still feel something, but you're blocked off from him. Now, to get the little children back.
"You're going to break Arsen for me. You're going to be part of my master scheme Jaenelle. Together, we're going to break the First. And, the sad part is, you're not even going to be able to tell him or remember this."
The laugh was the last thing she heard before falling into momentary darkness.
Jaenelle continued to stare straight forward, eyes clouded. The children were gone and her neck burned, but she couldn't remember what had happened, only that there had been a vampire guard, Carson, and this anti-vampire slug in her stomach. And, oh yeah, now the roof was collapsing.
What had happened?
However, deep in her subconscious echoed the sound of Daemonar's voice.
You're going to break Arsen for me, Jaenelle.
~~
Daemonar sat back and continued laughing. The raid had been a complete success! He now had the future of the rebellion on a forced march to Crimson Moon, Guardian was in chaos, and the First's whore was under his complete control. The plan was falling into place nicely and the thought made the King want to smile.
Daemonar had promised long ago he was going to break Arsen and this was shaping up to be the right time.
"Just hold on," Shadow said. He entered the headquarters after Remus, grabbing all that he could, and handing some to Eryn.
This was becoming a hellish night.
~~~~~~
"Jaenelle!" Arsen called again, smoke filling his lungs. He could see her. She was so damn close...
He shifted the weight of the roof and rolled it behind him, ripping loose boards down.
"Jaenelle," Arsen dropped to his knees infront of her and started ripping the shackles off and lifting her into his arms, "We have to--"
He cried out, the full weight of the ceiling crashing down on his back. He managed to cover Jaenelle, but he collapsed to the ground as the roof caved in on them.

Eryn grabbed the papers that Shadow handed her and then looked around for some way that she could hold more. Finally, the little shifter tucked her shift into her trousers and started stuffing the paper down the front of her shirt, reaching out her hands for more.
"I can carry more this way," she insisted upon seeing Remus' doubting look, continuing to reach for more paper as the sounds of explosions rocked Guardian and the screams of the refugees provided a depressing background of sound.
~~
The shackles fell were ripped away from her wrists and someone lifted her into their arms. Jae snarled weakly pushing away futilely, her strength almost drained and blood still leaking out of the wound in her stomach. She could practically feel herself becoming mortal; it felt like there was no strength in her arms when she pushed against the hard, cold chest that she knew must be Arsen's because Arsen was the only one that would look for her.
That's when the roof crashed in on top of them, making Arsen cry out and Jaenelle scream. For a moment, her world blanked out, then her eyes opened back up to realize that Arsen was on top of her and he was taking most of the weight of the ceiling off of her body.
"A-A-Arsen?" Jae asked weakly, reaching out with one hand, that actually had a slash across the back that wasn't healing. For a moment, seeing Arsen injured, a sick pleasure overrode her senses and Jaenelle shuddered, shaking her head, writing it off to blood loss. "Are you okay, love? Arsen?"
Jaenelle began to panic slightly when her mate didn't respond before tryng to reach out with her mind and contact Shadow, but her psychic powers weren't working and she and Arsen were lying under the caved in roof of the children's Sanctuary, her mortal and he holding the weight of the world on his shoulders, literally.
"Arsen? SHADOW!?!?"
~~
Daemonar felt the panic that Jaenelle was feeling through their bond and reveled in it. The bonding spell was becoming firmly cemented. The effects of the spell would've just worn off and it felt like Arsen hadn't had enough time to realize what was making his whore act oddly before whatever was making the girl panic happened. This was just too good to be true. His plan was now out of the danger zone and into the clear; now, all he had to do was make a few suggestions to his new puppet and eerything would pull together ever so nicely.

"Here," Shadow kept handing her more.
"We've got everything," Remus said, pulling the maps from the safe, "Lets get out of here."
~~
When the two got to the meeting place, they knew something was wrong.
"Where's Arsen?" Shadow called. Many said they saw him run toward the blast, causing Shadow to curse.
"I'll get him," Remus said, handing his papers to another gaurd.
"All right. Be careful, my friend," Shadow said. And Remus tore to the city.
~~~~~~
Arsen blacked out, but not for long. He could hear Jaenelle scream.
Hot...
He groaned and started to sit up, the wood snapping and groaning above him.
He could see the entrance.
"Get out," His voice slurred, "Crawl. Now."
He could hold the roof until she was safe, but he knew that would be the extent of his strength.
Daemonar sat back in the chair in his room and almost died laughing when he heard Arsen's talking to Jaenelle. He must always be the dramatic hero, mustn't he? But this won't kill him, yet. It would take all the fun out of it. The King contemplated making Jaenelle do something, but decided that would expose the plan too soonand instead sat back and just watched.
~~
The last of her vampire strength left her a few moments after Arsen pushed his weight off of her chest and that's when Jae really began to feel the bullet wound in her stomach. As per his request, she tried pulling herself towards the entrance, but stopped after gaining a couple inches, panting hard, her eyes closed halfway, wincing as she felt more blood slide down her stomach and soak into the material of her trousers.
Finally, Jaenelle glanced from the entrance to Arsen, not even sure if she could crawl that far. She smiled up at her mate weakly, reaching out with her left hand to brush his hair away from his face, her right pressing down on the bullet wound in her stomach. Jae wasn't stupid, belly wounds were dangerous, they were lethal and usually meant that you would die a painfully slow death, bleeding out through the wound. The only reason the ex-Hunter wasn't dead yet was because her vampiric skills had been trying to reknit the skin and failing. Now that the anti-vamp magic had taken full effect, Jaenelle knew that she wouldn't really survive much longer.
"Hey....silly. I'm...not gonna leave you....I'm not ever....gonna....leave you. Can't....get rid...of me that....easily," Jaenelle managed to pant out, still pressing down on the wound before puling her hand back and looking down at it, showing Arsen and letting him smell her blood; he'd realize she knew. Even with her weakened senses, her blood smelled...wrong. Vampiric blood always head a funny tangy, cold scent to it, but her blood smelled warm, too alive, too human. "I'm not going...anywhere. I love you."
The ex-human looked up at her mate carefully before kissing him quickly and then lying back down under him, exhausted by even that effort. Goddamn, she was tired and she knew Arsen was too.
"Don't have... to hold the roof up....love," she managed. "Don't...have to."
~~
Eryn looked up at Shadow quietly, sensing something was wrong.
"Where're Arsen and Jaenelle? Where's Remus going?" she asked solemnly a couple minutes later, placing her hands over her stomach to make sure that none of the papers hidden under her shirt would slide around and make noise, causing the fleeing refugees to be found by their vampire pursuers.
Arsen blinked slowly, his blurred vision clearing.
"No... Jaenelle... Not again..." He could feel his arms shaking from the effort to hold the roof up.
He shifted the ceilings weight on one shoulder to reach down and press his hand to her stomach.
"Jaenelle, no..." He brought his hand to his mouth and split his thumb open, letting the blood drip on the wound once he fished the bullet out. The wound would heal, but not at the rate he wanted.
The wood creaked, causing Arsen to cry out as the weight fell on him again.
His hand was still against her stomach.
"I... love you... too..." And he blacked out again.
~~~~~~
"Arsen!" Remus called, vaulting his small body over the flames, "Jaenelle!"

Jaenelle screamed as Arsen's weight crashed down on top of her along with the weight of part of the roof; she was mostly mortal now and, while Arsen had gotten the bullet out and started healing the wound, it still hurt. The ex-human heard some of her ribs break and started panting shallowly as the weight shifted a little and she felt one of her ribs begin to poke her lungs. Arsen's hand against her stomach, though, was soothing and dearly familiar; he had done this so many times when she was pregnant with Larial, but now he was doing it so that she wouldn't bleed out her life under him.
The weakened vampire continued panting, refusing to give into the blackness that was pounding on the edges of her vision, using her last moments of consciousness to look at Arsen. They'd had a life together, a life full of strife and shattered dreams, a partnership that was stronger and deeper than many could ever hope to have, but now it was all coming to an end because of their one mistake- trusting Daemonar.
"I love...you, Arsen," Jaenelle mumbled one more time, forcing her right hand up to touch his blue-black hair and run her hand through it in the dearly familiar gesture, lacing her fingers through it and tugging weakly before lying her head backwards and staring up at the smoke-ridden night sky. This night, which had started out so magical, deteriorated into her last night on this earth and Jae sighed softly. This was how it ended, trapped with Arsen in the Sanctuary of the city of rebels that they had tried to protect this was the ending.
Jae's eyes started to close, leavin the last impression of Arsen's hair splayed across her face and the flames crawling closer and reaching up towards the nighttime sky when she heard it- Remus' voice.
"R-Remus," the vampire whispered weakly, wincing when her lung felt her rib begin to poke it. Then a little louder and louder until she was screaming as loud as her smoke-choked voice could go, "REMUS!....REMUS!...Remus...Remus....remus... re-"
Then Jae started coughing and felt her ribs start shifting again and cursed.
Hot damn...

"Jaenelle!" Remus called when he heard her voice, only to choke on the thick black smoke. He had to work fast.
He was glad now to be a mutt, now pulling the burned roof off Arsen and Jaenelle. He kept his form as fire resistant as possible, then switched to the one with the most strength.
As soon as he threw the last of the wood off, he inhaled sharply. There was a growing pool of drying blood around them, and Arsen's back was badly burned.
"Jaenelle," Remus said softly, slowly rolling Arsen off her. The vampire's face tensed, but he didn't stir.
Remus then lifted Jaenelle, "I'll get you out of the smoke then heal you. Arsen will be fine. For now."

"Remus...." Jaenelle muttered, her consciouness phasing in and out for a moment with all the movement making her broken bones do funny things. "Arsen...first. Please....he was really....badly off."
The vampire winced slightly as the loss of Arsen's weight made her ribs make a strange cracking sound; then Remus picking her up made them shift and she felt one puncture her lung and she started coughing, blood splattering across her oddly sloped in chest full of fractured ribs and Remus' face. She glanced back at Arsen and saw how badly burned his back was and then she coughed again, more blood bubbling past her lips; reminding her of Arsen earlier this evening and that triple cursed hunting trip with that bloody knife- did everything have to be a replay?
"Arsen, dammit..." was all she managed before passing out cold in Remus' arms.
~~
Daemonar felt Jaenelle pass out and he could feel her relief that Arsen wasn't dead yet and he wanted to start cursing, but instead started pacing, not wanting to wake his mate in the next room over. Maybe he should go visit Caya again and take out his frustration with her?
Then the King shoook his head. This was wartime and kings did not bed their mistresses while an important battle was waging.
Sorry Caya...
~~
Eryn looked up at Shadow quietly, sensing something was wrong.
"Where're Arsen and Jaenelle? Where's Remus going?" she asked solemnly a couple minutes later, placing her hands over her stomach to make sure that none of the papers hidden under her shirt would slide around and make noise, causing the fleeing refugees to be found by their vampire pursuers.

"Shit," Remus hissed. He carefully carried Jaenelle away and set her on the ground away from the fire and smoke.
He crouched next to her and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were white instead of black. He held his hands above Jaenelle's body, the wounds healing under his new angelic powers.
Daemonar, you idiot, Remus thought. After the experiments seeming to fail, Daemonar threw Remus out. Now, now Remus had a job.
After he was sure Jaenelle healed, he stood, swaying for a moment then went back for Arsen.
~~~~~~
"Remus went to get Arsen and Jaenelle," Shadow said softly, giving the papers to the gaurd that Remus had, "We have to make sure everyone made it."
Jaenelle stirred slightly on the ground, moving her head towards the faint crackle of a fire, revived by the healing magic that Remus had shot through her system.
Why do I feel so weak? she wondered as even trying to move her hand to push herself up was a struggle; the weakened vampire managed to plant both palms firmly on the ground before giving a pitiful attempt to push herself up. What the hell happened? And then a more pressing question presented itself and Jaenelle's eyes snapped open as her arms collapsed, spilling her back into the dirt. Oh gods, where was Arsen?!
~~
Eryn nodded solemnly before carefully untucking her shirt, sending all the papers that she had been holding scattering down around her feet before bending over to carefully start organizing them to hand to the guard.
I hope Remus is okay.
Remus shouldered Arsen, slmwly dragging the vampire to Jaenelle and laying him in the dirt.
"Gods. He's like a brick," Remus sighed, sitting next to the pair, "I'll help you two to the meeting point. I just have to catch my breath."
~~~~~
"Come on. We have to start helping to set up the tents," Shadow said.
The refugees were setting up makeshift tents, which were blankets sewn together and hung branches.

"A-Arsen?" Jaenelle managed, rolling onto her stomach and breathing in sharply at the feeling of putting weight on the newly healed ribs, reaching out to touch her mate's face gently. "Oh, I'm so glad."
A tear leaked down her cheek, startling her monumentally, especially when she found that the substance running down her face was really water tinged a slight pinkish color from the blood that she would normally cry. Oh gods, I'm mortal...
That thought almost sent her reeling back into unconsciouness.
~~
Eryn followed after Shadow silently, doing as he bid her, but always staying close enough to be able to latch onto his leg and hold tight if he tried to leave her- she was not letting him out of her sight, not after what had just happened in Guardian.
~~
Daemonar was sitting again, resting his head in one hand and thinking. He needed to up his game; neither his grandfather or his bitch was dead which meant that the King needed to start the enxt part of his plan- he needed to make suggestions to Jaenelle....especially suggestions that would begin breaking Arsen into little bits and, through him, crush the rebellion.
An idea flitted through his head and Daemonar smiled. Yes, that would do quite nicely.

Remus sighed and stood again, holding Arsen's weight against his shoulder then offered his hand to Jaenelle.
"We have to get him out of here. Lets go, Miss Jaenelle," Remus said, shrugging Arsen's weight, "Quickly."
~~~~~~
When the other tents were set up, Shadow took Eryn to one near the other shifters.
"Now, you need to sleep, little one," He pulled the 'door' aside and gently scooted her in. There were two blankets for beds lain in the dirt.
Jaenelle grabbed Remus' hand thankfully, unsure if she would've been able to pull herself up and then stood on wobbly legs next to him, trying hard to make her knees not collapse and send her tumbling back into the ground.
Focus, she breathed silently to herself before stepping away from Remus' supporting arm and almost tumbling facefirst into the ground; Jae quickly righted herself, breathing hard, and looked over at Remus, nodding slightly.
"Let's....go," she panted out, taking her first staggering step forward, unused to not being able to move with the grace and power that had become so natural and fluid to her in the last century or so.
I can do this, the vampiress thought to herself silently, looking over at Arsen's still form that was still slung over Remus' shoulder. If he could keep me alive when a roof is falling on us, then I can keep myself by walking out of Guardian.
Jaenelle's mind shied away from the knowledge of the children's whereabouts, firmly not allowing her to think about it or she knew that she would not be able to go on. Instead, using Arsen as her focus point, she began to follow Remus out of the wreckage of the former refugee camp.
~~
Eryn looked back at Shadow doubtfully before glancing between him and the blankets and then at the shifters that were staring at the blind werewolf's back warily.
"Are you going to stay with me?" the shifter asked after a moment, keeping her eyes peeled to judge Shadow's reaction to the question.
"I stay with you," Shadow said, "I'm going to sit just outside the entrance-I'll have to help take care of Arsen when they return."
~~~~~~
Remus slowly drug Arsen to the meeting point and to a rustic medical tent, laying him inside on the sheets.
"I'll get a healer. You can stay with him, Jaenelle," Remus said, laying Arsen on his chest, "Just wait."

"I want to go, too," Eryn insisted, sitting down next to Shadow and refusing to go inside the tent. She was not going to get separated from her savior and the person whose presence was keepin the other shifters away. The little shifter wasn't stupid, she could see the sideways glances that she was getting from some of the matured, battle-scarred changers and it was making her edgy; her fur was spiking up in tufts around the bases of her ear and her tial looked like a bottle brush as it swept back and forth nervously in the dirt that was in front of the tent that Shadow had chosen.
"I'm staying with you," the little girl whined, not trying to sound petulant, but definitely determined not to be left behind.
~~
Jaenelle collapsed on the ground next to the cot that Remus had laid Arsen down on. Her shoulders were shaking and she pulled her knees up to her chest, laying her head on top of them. Her eyes followed the subtle rise and fall of her mate's chest, seeing the rough burns from the collapsing roof, but not carrying. Shakily, Jae reached out her hand to touch Arsen, feeling how hardly muscled he was how, strong he was compared to her; just touching him reassured Jae however and her heart calmed slightly as she began running her fingers through his hair as she did almost obsessively whenever she was with him. It was just her simple gesture of possession and carrying, but, even now, it was like her arm was made of lead. It was so heavy and her eyes were so tired; being turned forcefully back into an almost-human was hard work, along with the forced speed-healing that Remus had given her.
"Arsen, I'm so glad you're okay," she mumbled softly before putting her arms on the side of his cot and laying her head on top of them, letting them cushion her head.

"They're here," Shadow said softly and stood, then taking Eryn's hand and helping her up, "Come along. Lets go help."
(Shadow would make a great father lol)
On the way to the medical tent, they passed Remus.
"Jaenelle's fine, but Arsen is badly burned," Remus said, leading them back to the tent, letting Shadow in first.
Shadow groaned, "Ugh. It reeks. Get me some gauze. I need to wrap him up."

((Wahahah, I wish Shadow was my dad XD))
Eryn wrinkled her nose and shied away from where the male vampire who was lying on the cot. He smelled burned, he smelled....like her after the acid. The little shifter shuddered and slunk away to the far side of the tent, trying to stay away from the two vampires in the middle of the room.
~~
Jaenelle looked up at the intruders in the tent and snarled softly, protecting her mate with the last of her strength. Her eyesight was blurred past being able to tell who it was and since her sense of smell had been dulled, she couldn't tell who it was.
"Get out," the vampire growled weakly, glaring at them with dim green eyes.
