I was just curious to see who else had read one of the most famous Vampire Series out there.
I've read them all, but i wish i had stopped at Tale of the Body Thief and then skipped ahead to Merrick then stopped for good.

I did like the books but I have two pet peeves about them. The first is how repeatitive they are towards the same stories over and over again and the second was how feminin Anne Rice made her male characters. Drove me absolutely nuts. I honestly couldn't make it all the way through Blood and Gold. I had to put it down it was boaring the hell out of me.

hah. Its my opinion that everything after Tale Of The Body Thief is garbage. And yes, her characters are pretty girly. I'm trying to think of a single Straight male character in the Chronicles and I'm drawing a blank. Maybe Khayman but I'd doubt it. My biggest pet peev is how Rice can't keep her dates the same.

i liked the vampire chronicles but something that i did notice about them was that a lot of her characters were really alike.

Wait! All the female characters were straight! HA..... That doesn't help... Yeah... can't say they were the greatest things... I think we should have a pole as to whether or not most female writers can write a good male character. I have only read about one book that was written by a woman who was not a complete homosexual, metrosexual or over sensitive ninny. Yes I said Ninny! It's why I enjoy the movie Queen of The Damned, at least in that movie Lastat isn't bisexual... Though Marius is a different story, though he hides it well. Yes I enjoy that movie, the first movie was good too.. Only cause Tom and Brad were lovers... Ahhh over rated hollywood actors, how we appreciate when you're taken advantage of...

You are welcome to create such a pole (im pretty sure that members have the ability to create polls in almost every board). And I guess if you could get past Stuart Townsend's bad acting, and hadnt read the book yet QOTD movie wouldnt be that bad. But I cant, and I have, so the only saving grace of that movie--to me--is the soundtrack (and score) and the inside jokes my freinds and I share about it.
IWTV was a fantastic movie, but--gawd--did they have to give Louis a square hairline? Looks like he has a box for hair.

Hey don't ruin them for me. I have yet to read the books, saw both movies.
I liked the movies they were interesting.I found it interesting that Anne Rice didn't want Tom Cruise to play Lestat because he was too short, and typically American. I think it is one of his better movies.
I have somewhat mixed feelings towards the books, as I have heard mixed opinion about them. As long as they're better than Anne Rice's Witching Hour (I listened to the whole book on audio, and just thinking about it still creeps me out!). I'll try reading a few, they're on my list of books to be read sometime.

good ones to have on your list. (or at least the first few)
what was wrong with the witching hour?

Whats wrong with it? Its like 10000pgs. I got maybe 200 pgs into it when i tryed reading it and NOTHING had happened by that time in the story.
And yeah, I would stop reading after Tale of the Body Theif, because it just goes MASSIVELY downhill after that.

yeah i tried to read the vampire armand. and merrick. key word: tried. i was not impressed with either. i didn't want to think about lovely marius being a pedaphile, or about david being a scudgy old man checking out the endowments of a 14 year old.

lmfao I liked the book The Vampire Armand.. Though there was alot of homosexuality in it and child.... Well if it happened today it would be illegal and it was still frowned upon back then... That's the only problem i had with that book was the molesting.

hm. yes i just didn't want to envision my favorite character like that.
but the problem with merrick was that it was really damn boring and then the only spice was a gross old man. i am deterred by the details of how an old wierdo watches the movements of a 14 year olds breast when she is only wearing a sheer night gown. but it was really slow to begin. and i'm not really sure just how much i like the idea of the talamasca.

Im on page 245.. Armand is okay, But Im more in favor for Lestat.. He's so cool.. (possibly something to do with my likeness of musicians...) that and the.. oh, crap.. whats her name? A.. A something.. akashka? I forgot and am too lazy to go get the book from my bag upstairs lol.

aksha. sometimes i wonder if i am insane to find myself in favour of her plan to kill the vast majority of males. it doesn't feel crazy though.
i think that armand comes off more as a whiney brat in iwtv and tvl. or at least that's what i found.

Eh.. I still think Lestat is awesome. Her plan does sound kinda cool.. in a way but i Have a Boyfriend,.. sooooo... lol... jk.. but you get the idea, her plan is cool and yet highly weird....
wonder why i forogt why she wnated to do that..
In QOTD Armand kinda scared me.. but then he seemed just curious.,. I read more last night.. now im just afraid of him and Daniel all together......There two guys. what the hell?

Anne Rice has highly homosexual characters. Lestat even tries to get his best (male) friend to sleep with him later on in the series . But Daniel was my favourite character of Queen of the Damned. He was just so tortured. And I would be pissed off all the time too if a 500yr old boy was obsessed with me and immortality was so close at hand yet constantly denied. Mishca, you should be able to find the books at ANY used or new book store or your public library. You can also find the entire series on ebook available for download through Torrents. Why were the books pulled off the shelves at school?

hmm.. ill check my public library.. Why they wewre pulled off? Well, our school libraray ahs this thing, where if a book is complained about they have to pull the book off. so I guess that is why. But hey, I got my hands on the guide to her books so..lol.. im good for now.I still think Lestat is cool.. specially with his idea for music.. lol.

Wow. I've never heard of someone complaining about TVC. I always loved his lyrics. I know all the words to Age Of Innocence. Wish someone would put them to music in RL. Would love to hear someone wailling like Bruce Springsteen, as Lestat does, and hear a train be the into to a TVL song.

HOLD THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/b] Mishca, you havent had a chance to learn this yet, but I know almost EVERYTHING there is to know about the QOTD movie--yes, i lacked a social life for a few years--with emphasis on the soundtrack and score and I'm kinda vocal about it. Manson had ONE song on the soundtrack, which was written by Jonathan Davis of KORN who was also the vocals of Lestat in the movie, but due to his record label was unable to appear on the soundtrack. He then contacted a few artists he thought would do Lestat justice, causing a mishmash of other artists to cover the songs on the soundtrack. Manson was, however, featured in the song Penetrate by Godhead.

I am so proud, finally finished listening to "The Vampire Lestat". Took me three times, and yes this does not count as reading the book. At least it is not the movie and there was no glitches. I think it's the best I like so far. Lestat is not as creepy as I thought. And I love his mother's independance. I would love to know more of what becomes of her.
As for "The Witching Hour" the story took forever to get going, and then it was creepy, I wanted to be sick after listening to all the inbreeding that went on in that family in an effort to increase their power. I'm sorry but father- daughter, brother-sister, etc.... eugh!!!!!!!!!!!!
