"..." Aliya pushed out of his arms, "...You're odd. But, I suposse it's just who you are."
She turned and started walking away with him, holding tight onto his hand.
her manager had told herthat if it had been found out she had gone to Ressurection, she would be fired, no question. She didn't want to loose her job, having nothing else to fall back on.

Kaito looked at Aliya's back strangely for a moment before slowly shaking his head. Well, of course I'm odd, I'm a vampire, he wanted to say, but knew that she might take it the wrong way. Her tight hold on his hand reassured him though and the vampire continued to follow her, not exactly wanting to tell her that she was headed in the wrong direction.
"Um, Aliya..."
~~
Colors! Cascades of colors! The ideas flowed down and became captured in those beautiful colors. Like butterflies under glass, they sprang to life for several seconds, dancing around the nymph's form before dropping back down to the dirty pavement, frozen in time once more. People stopped to stare at the spectacle of her colors flying up from the dirty District's sidewalks and hanging, suspended in the air, for a moment before becoming ordinary paintings on the walls and streets once more. The artist danced among her creations, hands fleetingly reaching out to catch a falling flower or touch a vampire's sharp fangs before being drawn back to busily work away at painting another masterpiece and charming it out of the cement.
Dark brown hair kissed by the sun straggled free of a messy bun and flew about her face as she waltzed down the street with a fleeting impression of a gentleman from the streets of Paris. People clapped as they danced and then sighed in disappointment as he faded back into the pavement. A streak of neon blue paint across her brown cheek highlighted her uptilted yellow eyes that flashed different colors as she danced down the street with her illusions. First gold, now yellow, now dark brown, now green, blue, yellow again. The crazy kaleidoscope of colors through her eyes matched the images that danced around her tiny form until suddenly they ceased.
The colors in her eyes faded as did the crowd's applause as the illusions ended. The seventeen year old suddenly stood on the street corner, very much alone, and, now, uncertain. People came up to press money into her hand as she stood there and her eyes followed them nervously, like a cat coming up against unknown people.
Without her illusions, Bastet felt stripped bare.

Aliya turned back to him, "Yes, Kaito? What is it?"
She stopped for a moment, looking around, and a blush slowly creapt too herface.
"... Crap," she muttered softly, realizing they'd gone the wrong way. She really did want to see this club but...

Kaito smiled reassuringly, making sure his fangs stayed behind his lips.
"It's fine," he murmured, squeezing her hand a little and starting to tug her in the opposite direction. "We'll still get there and you'll be safe. Don't worry."
This time, the vampire took the lead, safe and reassuring in his presence, letting Aliya follow for a little while.
~~
Bastet stood on the corner for a while, oversized cream sweater smeared with paint and chalk and her black leggings in the same condition. She self consciously tucked a piece of her hair behind one of her thrice-pierced ears and looked up and down the street nervously for a moment. All the strangers had disappeared back into the clubs and bars that they'd come from- happy to have seen a freak show and, what they thought, an interesting bit of sideshow magic. Bastet shook her head slowly; people never understood her brand of magic, her illusions. A hand randomly sketched through the air and suddenly a werewolf stood beside her, guiding hand on her shoulder. Then he faded away as she lost her concentration, which had shifted to an unlikely couple coming up her street towards that vampire club.
The illusionist slowly slipped into the shadows.

Aliya follwed behind him, unsure, then squeezed his hand and walked beside him. She gave a smile and leaned against his side.
Well, one time in wouldn't hurt, right? it wasn't like anything bad was going to hapen...
Right?

Kaito almost started at the unexpected contact, but his features instantly softened as he slipped a careful arm over Aliya's shoulders. Suddenly, the vampire saw the lights of Resurrection flaring up on the street ahead. His eyes widened in excitement and he squeezed his arm against the mortal a little to grab her attention.
"There it is," he told her, pointing at the blazing bright neon signs. "Resurrection."
Then a figure stepped onto the street in front of them and started dancing, taking the vampire's figurative breath away. Illusions rose up around her feet and started coming towards Aliya and him. Other people standing on the street noticed and started moving in to watch as Bastet's illusions began to dance in a merry ring around Aliya and Kaito.

Aliya had been so captivated by the lights, that the illusions startled her and she took a step back.
The girl looked around at the shapes and colors, suprised, then noticed the girl. This was her doing?
Aliya smiled and started clappig, rather enjoying the show.

Bastet watched the mortal and continued to make illusions fly around her, enchanting nymphs and small dogs, but around the vampire she created wolves and demons with teeth. He stood there and took it, but his eyes burned with the knowledge that she knew what he was. The illusionist stood there and smirked at the vampire, cocking her head to the side.
"She doesn't know," was all she said as the images continued to whirl, but they started to grow darker and creep closer to them.
~~
Kaito stood there and glared at Bastet. He knew who she was and what she was doing. He snarled as the dark images began to crowd him and Aliya.
"Enough," he snarled, a bit of his dark side peeking through for a moment as he banished the illusionist's magic. His voice broke a little; he'd been trying so hard to be normal. "Enough."

Aliya looked over when she heard Kaito speak and took a step back.
"Hey!" she called to the girl, "Stop that!"
it was hard to tell who she was talking too, but she grabbed kaito's wrist and started leading him away.

Bastet paused her illusions as they walked past, balancing on her tiptoes and whispering, "You don't know what he really is."
Then her illusions caught her back up and she danced along with them, forgetting about the odd couple for the moment.
~~
Kaito followed after Aliya, his scarred hand coming up to cover his face and yank on his bangs. He felt so stupid; a mortal had had to save him when she was the reason he was worried.
But, he had tried so damn hard. And he didn't want it to be screwed up. The vampire started walking next to Aliya again, keeping his eyes on Resurrection's lights.
"Sorry about that," he mumbled.

Aliya paused to look at the illusionist, then continued walking on.
"It's fine," she smiled at him, "Let's just go have fun, okay?"
She smiled at him happily, and led him into the club. Immediately, her head began to pound with the loud music and she shivered absently.

Kaito threw an arm over her shoulders, tugging her against him as they walked in the door without being challenged by the doorman. The vampire threw an absent nod to Abaddon, the Enforcer or glorified bouncer, as he came in; the Fallen nodded back and they passed easily. As they walked into the club, the couple's image was thrown back at them thousands upon thousands of times by the mirrors covering every available inch of the club's walls.
The vampire looked around at the club in all its glory and couldn't help but smirk; he had helped to build this- been one of the main architects on the project- and he wanted to show it off to Aliya.
"This is one of my favorite places in the whole city," he said directly into her ear so that she could hear him, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist; it was a convenient way to talk to her and it also marked her as his so that no one would touch her. "They make a mean burger, have amazing music and you can get as many drinks as you want."

Aliya leaned against him, "It's... interesting..."
She seemed a little uncomfortable with kaito holding her, but not too much. She even pressed against him.
"How about we sit for now? I've beens tanding all day, Kaito."

"All right, I know the perfect spot," the vampire answered, gently pushing Aliya through the crowd towards the stairs to the VIP section which overlooked the dance floor- it was also known as the Immortals' section. A lot of the Midnighters turned to watch Kaito as he passed, knowing who he was and how strong he was and wondering why he'd brought such a weak human to a rave at the Resurrection. Kaito nodded to the Immortal guarding the stairs and he let them through without a word.
"Go on up!" the vampire shouted to Aliya. "I'll be right behind you!"

Aliya stood hesitantly, then brushed her hair back and headed up. She felt nervous with all the eyes on her, but stood straight and confident. She had learned a long time ago taht you had to put on a tough face to keep from being judged.
She seated herself in a back corner of the area, sheilding herself from the eyes of the others. She felt out-of-place here.

When Kaito sat down next to Aliya after having been stopped at several of the tables on his way over, he knew that she was feeling out of her depth. All of his senses screamed that this meant she was prey, but Kaito refused to listen to them. Instead, he mentally called out to a waiter who stopped by their table and left two shot glasses and a bottle of vodka on their table.
"I know it's a bit overwhelming at first, but I promise that you'll feel like you belong here in no time. This here's some liquid courage," the vampire explained, voice carrying soothingly over the haunting beat. "Would you like some before you start dancing?"

Aliyashrugged and poured herself a shot before downing it. The liquid burned and she cleared her throat.
"How often do you come to places like this? Especially without your friend?" she asked him curiously, setting herself up for another and getting him one too.

Kaito nodded his thanks and quickly downed his drink, staring around the room with eyes full of the glamor of the club. Then the magic fell away and the vampire saw the glass that had given him the scars spiraling up his arm; the memory made him shiver and self consciously finger the scars on his wrist.
Finally he answered her as he started turning his shot glass end over ed as he had earlier at the bar, "I come here pretty often because it's one of the only places that I really feel...accepted. They overlook these," he motioned to the thick scars, some that looked like deliberate cuts, "and also the deeper scars that no one else can see."

She let them fall into silence, dropping the conversation again.

Kaito set down the shot glass he'd been toying with and tugged on his bangs with his tattooed hand. He had never been good with feelings and now when confronted with them, he felt slow. The vampire gently grabbed Aliya's hand and squeezed it, pouring himself another shot at the same time and then downing it.
"You make me being like your brother sound like a bad thing."

She got another shot and downed it.

Kaito started a little at the similarity in his story and her brother's.
"What a coincidence,' he breathed, so quietly that Aliya had no chance of hearing him, "I did too." Out loud, he stumbled, unsure what to say. Finally he mumbled, "I'm sorry."
Then he stood, grabbing Aliya's hand, smiling and trying to lighten the mood. "C'mon, now is not the time to think of sad things. It's time to celebrate new friendships! Come dance with me."
(*)
Bastet finally finished dancing and realized that she was alone again, covered in paint and chalk in the middle of the night in the most dangerous District. The couple from earlier had disappeared and she decided to follow them, having no other focus at the minute. The illusionist skipped down the street and slipped, shadow-like through the door of the club.

Aliya smiled and nodded, following after him, "Let's go!"
The girl walked with him back to the dancefloor. Then the girl began to move in ways that would make Shakira jealous. She spun and twirled around the dancefloor, seeming to not even break a sweat as she danced to some song pulsing through the speakers.

Kaito watched, impressed for a moment before starting to dance as well, moving his body with snake like quickness and panther like grace. It was beautiful to watch, but he was enjoying watching his little mortal become something more than human; it was captivating. The vampire's feet followed the beat and one of his arms slung out to grab Aliya by the waist, pulling her closer to him and out of the way of some creep trying to grab her.
"Mine," he snarled at the other male, baring his fangs as his eyes flashed red.

Aliya stumbled, but had soon slipped back to the beat.
Then, something about her began to change.
She slipped from Kaito's arms, still dancing. A mark was glowing under her shirt, over heart, a red circle shining through the cloth. Her eyes lazily opened and began to change colors, darkening to near black.
She didn't seem to notice, but more of the males stopped to watch, leaving their partners angry and upset.

Kaito continued dancing, but the light that had been burning in him since he met Aliya stilled and flickered. She wasn't human... was she? The vampire slowly started circling the girl, warding off the other males that had stopped dancing and started watching his girl. His hazel eyes took in all the minute changes happening in her appearance and his long fingers darted out to touch her every now and then, mapping the changes going on under her skin.
"Aliya..." he breathed softly, continuing to move around her.

Only a few moments later, illusions shot up around the room, unlike Bastet's. These images lulled one into comfort and inxotication.
She was only moving a few minutes longer before one of the patrons had punched her. The illusions faded and she dropped to the floor.
The same symbols began to glow between her shoulder blades and lower back and she began to scream.
A pair on leathery wings tore from her back and a tail sproted from the base of her spine.
A few of the other patrons retreated. A single hushed word was whispered.
"...Succubus."
The race was usually looked down upon and avoided, because of their nature. However a few, like Aliya, had that side sealed and locked away deep within them. Buried to never be remembered.

Kaito snarled at the male that had punched Aliya down, slamming out a hand and pushing the mortal into one of the mirror lined walls. A myriad of spiderweb cracks flared out from around the male's head as he dropped like a stone to the floor. The vampire snarled at all the people standing around Aliya and they backed off warily; other Immortals ringed the outside of the mortals standing the closest, but one glare from Kaito sent them gliding sedately back to the bar or the dance floor, as they left they took mortals with them. The mortals that stayed weren't as lucky though.
Kaito stood over Aliya before quickly swinging the budding succubus up into his arms and starting towards the stairs. The mortals growled and tried to attack, but Kaito turned them away with a bit of his mind manipulation. Then he started climbing the stairs holding Aliya close to his chest and blaming himself for bringing the girl to Resurrection, the seat of the most powerful vampires in the city and activating her powers.
"I'm so sorry," Kaito murmured, cradling Aliya to his chest.

Aliya gave no indication of hearing him, shaking and panting in his arms. The marks on her crackled with energy, burning her, but she was already worn from screaming.
Slowly, the wings and tail faded and the marks stopped sizzling and she was human again.

Kaito watched helplessly, knowing that while he wanted to be around her more, it would make her transform due to the overspill of power leaking from him to her. The vampire trod up the stairs and settled onto one of the plush velvet couches with Aliya in his lap.
"Oh sweetheart, I can't do this to you again," he murmured, kissing her forehead and knowing that, if he severed all connection with her, she would be condemned to a life of mortality and normality.
