[glow=red,2,300]Prologue[/glow]
One of the first things she could remember was him. The dark man who’d found her. Surreal himself—Ahareal. She didn’t know who he was or what he was, but he seemed like a dignified man, carrying himself with a panther’s grace. In the woods when he’d found her, his eyes seemed to actually see her and not just her face. His eyes seemed to be capturing her very soul with a mental camera—as though he was afraid that he would never recognize her if he saw her again.
She never liked his eyes. Always criticizing her every move, every thought before it came, every detail.
His sky blue eyes followed her everywhere she went. Even into her thoughts. And yet… They comforted her, made her tell him her problems.
She may not have liked his eyes, but he loved everything about her.
She was fourteen now, a woman—which was proven in blood. She still had the face of a young girl, but a growing build still. She had reached 5’4” recently, and Ahareal was proud of it. It made her happy to see him happy. He was like her father, after all.
He often told her that her hair was the same silvery-moon color as her mother’s. This always made her depressed, since she couldn’t remember her mother. Ahareal, though, always found something to make her happy after he’d told her this. One such time was Ahareal finding a baby blue bird, holding it for her. That had been when she was five.
But today…
Today, the pair were riding quickly on horse back, shielded in dark cloaks. They were both mounted on strong stallions, Ahareal’s a dark black and her’s a light brown.
“Hurry, AnikRose. Keep up!” Ahareal called, urging his horse forward.
“Why are they following us?” She called, standing up in the horse’s leather saddle as their horses-in unison-leapt over a fallen log.
“I’ll explain later, don’t let Peya stop!” He called back, urging his horse faster. It was a wonder that they hadn’t fallen, “We still have to take off! Once we clear the woods!”
Yes, they were surrounded by trees, shade covering them. But in the trees were Brates—feline creatures. They had a cat’s face but a man’s body. They were well known-treasure hunters. AnikRose and Ahareal were being chased by six of them, all dressed in assassin’s garb with deadly looking katanas at their sides.
“But the Brates!” AnikRose called, “Why are they here? Don’t they live in the swamps of Ethril?”
“I told you that I’d explain later!” Ahareal shouted. The forest was waning away, “Prepare for lift off!”
They broke through the trees and AnikRose heard the Brates hiss.
“Now, Siruis!” Ahareal called, “Peya!”
The horses ran side beside before leaping into the air. For a moment, they were hovering before wings were lifting the animals in the air.
“Lets get back to Cetbal! We need to regroup!” Ahareal shouted, directing his horse in a bank, Peya following close behind.
“You’ll explain then?”
“Yes, Princess.”
AnikRose never understood why Ahareal called her Princess, but he did. He always did. Even when he first met her—gave her the name AnikRose. He told her that the name meant “lost” in his native tongue, but he never said what it was.
Ahareal hardly kept secrets, and that was the one mystery AnikRose wanted to solve—what he was. After all, no one in the Kingdom of Menreal had heard of him. The man whose name was “Fallen”.
