I left those waters for good it seemed but a voice on the tide calls to me beckons my return
I know
There's nothing there for me beneath the waves there is only darkness an empty void muffled sounds and blurring existence
I know
tonight however, the voice calls so gently so I listen I follow return to my blackened sea
what harm could there be dipping one foot in the water warmer than air softer than wind kinder than their words
I know
but I've forgotten the lulling voice- a siren leaving me to the undertow
I kick and thrash but light escapes me eventually, I tire
the void that's engulfed me isn't so cruel- nor is it kind it is, in every way, neutral
there is no pain here but also no joy is that my desire?
I know
if I continue this way sinking that will never change
I will ebb away as the tide recedes
I know
but I can no longer see the surface
--------------------------
New here, hello~

Nicely put. I do love poems and songs about going under water. Makes complex things seem simple.

I really enjoy your use of imagery. It certainly helps trying to explain particular mental processes.

Admin: Thank you, I feel so too. It's a useful metaphor. DolorNoir: Thanks! ~
