Title: The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead (2nd Edition) Author: J. Gordon Melton, Head of the Transylvania Society of Dracula’s American Chapter Copyright: 1999 Visible Ink Press The Vampire Book is one of the most informative vampire books I have ever come across. It has almost everything you could ever want to know about vampires in folklore, history, media, and reality. The Table of Contents is easy to understand and has articles on such important subject matter as: - Poppy Z. Brite
- Bela Lugosi
- Nosferatu
- Protection against vampires
- Vlad the Impaler
…just to name a few. This book also has a Vampire Chronology. A timeline of significant events relating to vampires starting from 1047 to 1997. The Vampire references listed in the appendix of this encyclopedia span 86 pages, so there is no end to “further reading” if you so desire. The index is easily utilized and goes from Abbot and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to Zsa Zsa Speck. I must say that my favorite part of this book is the bat in the right margin of every page. When you flip the pages fast it flaps its wings. How cool is that!

It took me almost 5 years to find a copy of it and I had to go to the states to find it. I picked it up for $5 at a small book store. You should be able to buy it used online, but I'm fairly certain that it is no longer in print.

Hm. I wonder if I would be able to find this around anywhere... And then there would be the problem of getting it without getting in trouble.

If you have even the slightest interest in vampires this is a great book to have. Might need a suitcase to smuggle it into the house though. It's pretty hefty. And if you can only find it online...that's what friends addresses are for
