Toru bowed and smiled at Valentine's greeting. At least things would be easier from now on. Toru mulled about doing the mundane tasks assigned to him. The crowd wasn't as rowdy today which was strange but also comforting.
Tomorrow Toru had the day off as the bar was closed. It would be a welcomed break after this week. The vampire was a little down about that fact though because it meant that perhaps he wouldn't get to see his new friend.
(occ: sorry it's crap >____< I just have very little to say today it seems.)

[occ: it's alright! ^^ I of all people don't have room to talk or complain right now.]
Having finished his tour of giving the floor a sound mopping, Valentine returned to the bar. He came around propperly, instead of hopping over this time, and stood beside Toru.
"Things seem to be going smoothly enough," he said, knocking lightly on the polished wood surface of the bar for luck in this statement. "These brutes aren't so big and bad once they see that there's someone their size around. Hah, my mother always told me as a boy to travel in packs for a reason."
He turned and glanced at the callendar briefly. "So, we're off tomorrow?" Valentine leaned back against the bar, elbows resting on top. of it

Toru nodded solemnly. He didn't want to seem too happy about it with his grouchy boss right there. His thoughts began to wander and he seemed to space out. It wasn't intentional, the vampire just had a lot on his mind.
Time seemed to melt away dripping steadily off of the bare clock. Toru stood behind the bar with a neutral face. He let Valentine deal with all of the table orders. Being vampires seemed to bring the acquaintances closer in the young man's mind.
Near closing time Toru rustled up the courage to ask Valentine if he'd like to meet up on his day off.
''Wondering, I'm not sure if you are busy or not, if not would you like to do get-together?''

Valentine found working the tables wasn't so bad. He liked the fact that he actually got to be up and doing something that kept his mind occupied and saved Toru from being harassed. Their customers behaved themselves for the most part. They weren't eager to provoke someone they couldn't read, and he had no doubt that the idiot he'd 'corrected' the day before had spread the word that he wouldn't take their crap.
About half an hour before it was quitting time, Toru asked, ''Wondering, I'm not sure if you are busy or not, if not would you like to do get-together?'' His voice said he was nervous about asking.
Valentine smiled pleasantly. "Sure. Did you have a time and location in mind?" He really didn't mind the thought of spending some time with Toru. He hadn't really talked to anyone in a while, at least not here, and it couldn't hurt to get to know his co-worker a little better.

Toru stared at the ground like a child. He swayed a bit as he tried to think up a location. He didn't want to meet here; god knew he wanted to stay as far away as possible, but he didn't know if Valentine was familiar with this part of town or not.
"Here?" he asked hesitantly.

The older vampire chuckled. "As you wish. I'll meet you here at about eight."
As he said this there was a crash, the sound of glass hitting the floor and shattering. "Waiter!" someone shouted.
"Well, guess that's me. See you in a bit." With that, Valentine went in the direction the bellow had come from

Toru cringed as the glass hit the floor and then smiled at Valentine's comment. He enjoyed the company of this other vampire. Perhaps the young man could learn something from the red head. Toru had to admit that he wasn't a very good vampire yet. He had no idea what to do aside from the blood.
The clock ticked by slowly, crowds came and left. Just another day here at the bar.

By the time that the bar was ready to be closed up, Valentine had somehow managed to actually clean around their customers. The cobwebs that had hung in the corners were gone, the floors and tabeltops were fairly clean, and the smell of sweat and stale beer had diminished considerably. He stood and admired his work for a moment before putting away his cleaning supplies.
Having come in wearing his work clothes, there was no real point in him going back to the locker room except to put a combination lock on the one next to Toru's. He waited quietly while the younger vampire changed. Part of him wondered where Marceau had gone- generally one would expect the man to have said more than two words to him considering he was an employee.

Toru, being uncomfortable as he was, walked from the locker room timidly. He had left in such a rush that he couldn't find a shirt. His tiny frame was surprisingly muscular and smooth. Toru smoothed the back of his hair and half-smiled at the other vampire.
"Until tomorrow then?" he asked.
Marceau wandered into the back room with a scowl on his face. With a snort he exclaimed, "this place is getting too tidy." He looked to Toru and smirked. "That's one way to prove you ain't a girl." he said grabbing the vampire around his shoulders. "If you came in like that though it wouldn't matter what you were. The guys would go crazy over your pretty face."
Toru looked at the ground completely embarrassed.

Valentine's brow furrowed slightly at Marceau's comment about the bar beingtoo tidy only to shift to a complete scowl as the man wrapped his arms around Toru's shoulders. The younger vampire looked at the ground defeatedly. That he hated their boss touching him was evident, but he wouldn't say anything for fear of reprimand.
Thinking quickly, Valentine laid his hand on Toru's shoulder and very carefully pried him out of Marceau's grasp. "I'll be sure to leave things a little less clean next time, sir," he said, changing the subject as he guided the purple-haired young man behind him slightly. "We'll see you later." With a nod he turned both of them around and herded Toru out the door.
"That was rather annoying," the red head said once they were out on the sidewalk. "He really ought to learn to keep his hands to himself."

Toru looked up at Valentine and smiled. "Thank you." The young vampire hated that man. It seemed to be obvious to everyone except Marceau. Maybe one day, when he didn't need the money he'd kill the fat, ugly bastard off.
The night air was cool but it didn't affect Toru, he was a vampire and they only got warmth from the people they drank from.

"My pleasure," Valentine replied. "If you live for very long, you see a lot more like him. When they say history repeats itself they're not joking."
Toru was very young by vampire standards, and he had a lot to learn still. If he were a little "older" or perhaps had someone to teach him, he would have been able to manuever around Marceau's harrasment easily.
Who created you, the red-head wondered, that left you to fend for yourself? He certainly wasn't as Valentine was, having been born this way. That occurance was almost non-existant now. . . .
"Well," Valentine said, patting Toru's shoulder, "I'll see you back here at seven." With a small nod he disappeared down the sidewalk as he had the night before.

Toru watched as Valentine walked away. He frowned to himself. He was such a rubbish vampire. Toru didn't want to admit who made him, why they made him, or how a vampire was supposed to act. Valentine was so capable; he could really take care of himself. Toru could barely fend off any attacks despite his strength and agility.
A sigh escaped him as he made his way home. He didn't feel much like feeding today.
His small apartment was dingy and bare. The only thing he was worried about was finding his parents so he never bothered to get anything to go in here besides his coffin. Sleep would help him feel a little better about himself he was sure of it.

Valentine had slept well after he'd gotten his mind to stop sorting thoughts. He disliked it that whomever had made Toru a vampire had dropped the poor boy like a newborn pup and run off. In his younger days, he himself had gotten a bit out of hand and turned someone, but he had not abandoned her.
Mulling over this same train of thought he stood outside the bar waiting for Toru, leaning against it's wall with his arms crossed. He'd dressed in a pair of well-worn jeans, black tennis shoes, and a t-shirt of the same color. People that passed by stared at him, baffled by his palor and the odd aura he gave off, but he payed them no mind. You don't live that long without learning to ignore people.

Toru woke and pulled on a gray-brown long sleeved tee. Over that he places a similar coloured vest with a large hood and ruffles. He had pinned a red ribbon to it that he had kept from his childhood. His pants were black and white vertical stripped. Before leaving he slipped on a pair of black shoes and headed down the street toward the bar.
From a ways away he could see Valentine leaning against the wall. He hoped that he hadn't made the other vampire wait long. As he approached he pushed aside his purple bangs and offered a hello.
"I didn't keep you waiting long did I?" he asked, moving aside as people continually walked past. The night had fallen, only a faint trace of the sun remained in dull colours near the horizon. The young vampire looked down at the filthy sidewalk, embarrassed about yesterday still. Toru continually reminded himself that he was a rubbish vampire.

Valentine smiled as Toru appeared and greeted him. "No, I've only been here a few minutes. It doesn't take me long to slip into my own mind and get lost." The last part was said with a rueful chuckle. Straightening up he saw the look on the younger vampire's face.
"If it's not being too nosey, Toru, what's bothering you that you have such an expression. You're not still worried about yesterday, are you?" Valentine reached over and laid his hand on Toru's shoulder reassuringly. "It's not your fault that Marceau's a pig."

"It is almost as if you have stolen my mind..." Toru paused and thought for a moment placing his index finger to his lips. "Read my mind." he corrected himself waving about the same finger. English sure was tricky to speak and remember. Still it was partly his fault for being so transparent.
The colours quickly faded from the horizon and were replaced by the colours of the city lights. A terrible puke peach colour that was held in the atmosphere by the slight cloud cover. Toru wondered if Valentine had decided what to do. "Do you have a plan for tonight?" he asked hesitantly.

"I have that affect on people," Valentine said. "I thought we'd go to this nice little cafe I ran across and get a table outside since it's such a nice night. I was shocked when I found it so close to this bar." Taking his hand from Toru's shoulder he turned and lead the way at an easy pace. He walked without slouching, his gate proud and yet having a deceptively lazy grace.
"Toru, how long have you been a vampire?" he enquired.

"How long?" Toru repeated before falling silent a moment. The young man thought about it, "well, I was turned when I was nineteen, I'm twenty one now, so that makes two years." The vampire smiled at his friend, pleased that his English was spoken without flaw.
It was indeed a perfect night to be outside and Toru was grateful that Valentine had known a good place. The purple haired man didn't get out very much. "What about you? It seems you know much more than I do. I'm a rubbish vampire." His green eyes flashed before averting their gaze.

Two years. Toru was young compared to him.
"What about you? It seems you know much more than I do. I'm a rubbish vampire," the purple-haired vampire said. Again he looked away, not meeting Valentine's eyes.
"You are not a rubbish vampire, Toru," Valentine said, shaking his head. "You are young and you've had no one to teach you. The reason that I know so much stems from three reasons. For one, my age has a lot to do with it. I was born July twenty-first in the year 1621, so I've learned a few tricks. Second, I was raised in an environment that encouraged learning, so if I want to know something I work to find the answer. Third, I am not what one would call 'normal' by our kind's standards - I was not turned, I was born a vampire."
They got to the cafe just as it had really gotten dark outside. A woman came up and Valentine asked for a table for two out in front of the building and she seated them promptly, leaving menus and saying she would return shortly.

Toru was taken aback by Valentine's speech. The red head was undoubtedly ancient compared to himself and had been born into the darkness. Technically in terms of knowing about his vampirisim Toru was a toddler. He knew little and crawled about in the darkness without guidance. His eyes scanned the area and the face of their waitress. The young man wasn't very trusting of people in this country. In the end his green eyes landed on Valentine. He was so assertive and sure of what he was doing. Toru was the complete opposite.

Valentine picked up his menu, scanning it with cool blue-grey eyes. Spotting what he was after, he closed it and set it down almost as quickly. Looking at Toru congenially he said, "If you wish, I would be more than happy to teach you a little. I have nowhere I need to be and you seem like a nice person. I'd also like to find the inconsiderate lout that turned you and left you to rot and give them a peice of my mind, though that's not so probable."

When Valentine offered to teach Toru his face lit up and his eyes shimmered. "Really?" he asked, if it was a joke he'd kick himself for being so gullible. "That would be great!"
When Valentine ended his comment Toru looked down at his lap slightly afraid.

You've not wronged me in any way. I'm sorry if I snarled a bit on that last part, but the thought of someone being forced into this lifestyle and left high and dry rather irritates me."
The waitress came back, ready to take their orders. "I'll have a cup of coffee, please," Valentine said, giving her a polite smile.

"I just am not really comfortable with violence," Toru said, playing with the silverware.
Raising one eyebrow, the red-head replied, "We're evenly matched then. With a couple exceptions, I am a pacifist. I was raised to believe that one can get their point across without being violent or using foul language."
In an innocent tone Toru asked, "I know we just met and all, but can I tell you something secret?"
"If you feel comfortable doing so," Valentine said, nodding slightly. "I know how to keep a secret, I have enough of my own."

"Uh, um." Toru ran a hand through his purple locks. "I wasn't really left alone by my maker." He looked about and leaned in slightly. "See, I was turned by my twin brother...um..." Without thought his hands clasped together and shook. "He uh, he really loves me but, you see, he did something terrible to me and I just couldn't stand to be around him anymore."

Valentine sat quietly for a moment, absorbing what Toru had just told him. Turned by his own brother, and then. . . . He shuddered mentally. No wonder the poor boy had problems.
His brows furrowing a bit in a worried expression, he asked, "Toru, I'm not judging, but how can you call that 'love'?" He shook his head a bit out of centuries of habit. "Love is a very complex, volatile thing, but for someone to say they love you and hurt you that way. . . . It makes you wonder."
