After a few moments of gazing about the place, Atorey chugged back his drink and turned to face Valentine. The tall red-head wasn't really his type. It bothered him that he'd felt something, a pull if you will, to come into this piece of crap bar but couldn't figure out why. When the red-head patted something behind the bar his blue eyes shifted. Atorey stood and moved down the bar. Casually he leaned over it to see a mop of purple hair. "So that's why." He mused with a grin. "Toru, come say hello to your brother."
Toru froze when Atorey spoke to him. His eyes wider than they'd ever been. Hesitantly he obeyed for fear of angering his twin. The young vampire moved out from behind the bar, an expression of defeat and fear on his face. When he moved to stand beside Atorey, his brother grabbed him in a hug.
Atorey pulled Toru close; he was so glad to have found him again. The blue eyed vampire moved and kissed his twin deeply, forcing his tongue into Toru's mouth. "I've missed you, you know. You shouldn't have run away."
Toru reluctantly hugged Atorey back and cringed after he was kissed. Brother's shouldn't do that should they?

Damn! Valentine thought as Toru stood and went around the bar. Nearly 400 years old and he'd pulled a novice move! If he hadn't patted the younger vampire's head Atorey probably wouldn't have seen him.
It was all he could do not to gag when Atorey wrapped his arms around Toru and kissed him as one would their lover. Saints, how he wanted to pick the purple-haired boy up by his shoulders and get him back behind the bar where he could protect him. But what could he do? If he wasn't careful he risked ticking Atorey off, and something told him that wouldn't get them far.
"What brings this visit?" Valentine asked politely. Another thought entered his mind. Could Atorey not tell what he was? He gathered the brunette had been a child of the dark longer than Toru, so why wasn't he picking up on it?

Atorey crushed his twin to his chest and turned to look at Valentine. "I was in the neighbourhood." The vampire answered with a venomous look. "Thought I felt something familiar. Looks like I was right." Atorey didn't like the way Valentine treated Toru. He was too friendly. He pulled back and looked at Toru and planted another kiss. "I do hope you don't plan on running away again." He scolded.
Toru tried his hardest not to shake in his brother's grasp. "No. I won't run away again Atorey." He said softly with a sad smile.
"Good!" Atorey said with a wide smile. "I love you and I want to take care of you." He shot the red-head another glare. Something felt strange about him too but he didn't bother to probe any further.

The glares Atorey shot Valentine didn't scare the older vampire. He knew from what he saw that the brunette was just as Toru had said, arrogant and posessive, used to getting his way.
Calmly, the red-head said, "Toru, you don't have to go anywhere that you don't want to. You have a right to choose." He had an inkling that Atorey was not going to take this statement lightly or kindly. Valentine was very aware of all the humans in the bar. If things got out of hand, all of them could be hurt or killed. Scummy or not, that wasn't right.
He spoke a bit slower than normal, careful not to show his fangs. He could not retract them as most could so it was his only choice. If he could keep it under wraps for the moment, he had a better chance of getting the jump on Atorey if the situation called for it.

"I'm not forcing him." Atorey shot back in response to Valentine's remark. He turned to his brother. "But Toru living in this part of town is shameful. What would our parents think? You should come and stay with me." Atorey knew full well that their parents were dead. Hell, he'd been the one to kill them, but he never told Toru and he wasn't planning on doing so any time soon.
Toru bowed his head. "I'm sorry for bringing shame to our family." He stooped over in apology. The purple haired boy wasn't sure what to do. He looked to Valentine hopelessly, his green eyes threatening to well with tears.
Atorey patted his twin's head. "It's fine my love."

Valentine had to hold back a snarl when Toru looked at him, his green eyes so sad and lost. And for Atorey to try to shame him into compliance!
With as much self-control as he could retain, the older vampire said, "There is no reason for you to be ashamed, Toru. You make an honest living and you earn what you a need." He looked to the boy's twin. "Atorey, please let him go."

Atorey's brow furrowed. "No." He shook his head, his perfect caramel hair swaying with the motion. "Who are you to say these things to my Toru?" The blue eyed Asian wrapped his delicate hand around Toru's and squeezed tightly. With one last look at the red-head, Atorey led Toru from the bar. "You won't need to work there any longer. I'll provide for you. Anything you want I'll give it to you."
Toru pulled against his brother. "Atorey wait! I'm not done work!" His green eyes caught a glimpse of his teacher before the door swung shut. "Balentine!" He called desperately. "Atorey no!"
Atorey rolled his eyes and grinned, pulling Toru close with an arm around his waist. "Trust me, I can provide for you better than that man." He knew that he could push Toru around and was using it to his advantage. His bright blue eyes looked into his twin's green orbs. "Toru I love you."
"I love you to." He answered honestly. "But it's more like brother love, not what you want."
"Pshh don't be silly." Atorey said dragging Toru along down the sidewalk.

Toru's cries made Valentine close his eyes tightly for a moment. Atorey was going to make sure this wasn't easy. As Toru's twin dragged him out the door, the red-head jumped over the bar, landing squarely on his feet.
Turning to the room full of men, he said sternly, "Everyone out! We're closing and all of you have to leave."
"What the hell? Who says we have to leave?" one giant moron questioned.
"I do." Valentine said, throwing ice into his voice. "Leave." The men all filled out and down the street. Shutting off the lights and flipping the sign, the vampire strode down the sidewalk after his student.
When he was within sight of the twins he dodged into an alley and came around to appear in front of them. "Atorey, I will ask you again," he said, locking eyes with the boy. "Please, let your brother go."

Icy eyes bored into Valentine. "No." Atorey said firmly as he crushed Toru to his side. "He's my twin brother, you are nothing to him. I suggest you leave us be Valentine." Unlike Toru, Atorey was a master of both the Japanese and English languages. Atorey took Toru gently by the chin, "Toru you said you wouldn't run away again."
Toru felt helpless. He didn't want to make Atorey angry; he knew full well what could happen if he did. He looked at Valentine helplessly as he said, "I won't run away."
If their hair and eyes weren't different the twins would have been indistinguishable. Atorey was getting angry and his voice dripped venom when he spoke to the red head. "Get out of our way."

"I can't move when you're intimidating him into agreeing with you," Valentine said. He stared right back at Atorey, his blue-grey eyes stormy now. "I am his friend and I promised him I would teach him and help him become independent, something you will never do. You may be able to bully him, but you can't bully me, Atorey- your scare tactics won't work on me."
Valentine didn't want to fight. He was a pacifist after all. But he couldn't let Toru down. He would hold his ground as long as he could.

Atorey saw red with Valentine's words. The red head had a lot of nerve speaking to him like that. "You know nothing about me or my brother. Don't fucking pretend you do." A step brought him close enough to rake his long rainbow nails down Valentine's face.
"Atorey!" Toru yelled when his brother caused his teacher's face to bleed. Tears started to fall from his eyes as he began to talk to his twin in Japanese. "Atorey please, don't hurt Balentine, he's my friend, he's just looking out for me." The young vampire grabbed his brother and turned him so that he could look into his eyes. "Please just leave him alone, for me."
"Fine." Atorey answered back in his mother tongue. "But you're still coming with me. You want to find mom and dad don't you? I can help you. If you have questions, I can teach you."
"But..." Toru trailed off stepping away from Atorey and toward Valentine.
Atorey watched Toru closely. "He's not going with you." The blue eyed vampire said to the red head. "He's my brother, my lover, I looked for him everywhere and you won't get in my way."

Valentine didn't let the fresh cuts on his face phase him, he knew he couldn't afford to. Blood trickled down his cheek to fall on the collar and front of his white dress shirt. "If you love him so much, why don't you let him choose? Are you so scared that you can't gain his compliance any way but by force?" The red-head was beginning to lose his temper now. His fangs flashed as he spoke, his accent thickening in his aggitation.
"You talk of honor, Atorey, and yet you demonstrate none." Valentine's skin grew paler, his mouth and the skin around his eyes darkening, the cool blue-grey of his eyes darkening to a cold charcoal.

Atorey snarled at Valentine, the red headed vampire was very irritating. "I fear nothing." He snapped. "Toru will always choose me. We share the same blood, that's not something you can just erase." Blue eyes flashed as his fangs and nails elongated. Though he was much shorter in comparison Atorey stood ready to pounce on the Irishman at any second.
Toru could hardly see through his tears. He didn't want Valentine to get hurt and he was so very afraid of his brother's anger. The young vampire moved to stand between the two. "Atorey stop."
Atorey bared his fangs at his twin. "Don't be foolish Toru."
Toru was shaking uncontrollably, the conflict was putting him on edge. His head felt strange and almost faint. Green eyes looked to Valentine in an apology. Toru stepped forward and pushed Atorey against the wall of the building beside them. In order to distract his brother the purple haired vampire shoved his mouth onto Atorey's. His stomach was turning and all he could think about was keeping Valentine from being terribly hurt by his brother's surprising power. Innocent hands moved up under his twin's shirt, shaking noticeably and unsure of what to do exactly.

Internally, Valentine's own emotions began warring. Sickness because Toru stood kissing his twin, sadness because he knew the boy was trying to spare him being hurt, and a deep anger at Atorey.
What could he do? If he didn't get Toru away from Atorey, he couldn't stand to think of what would happen to the young vampire. But Atorey would not let him go so easily, and if Valentine hurt the bugger in the process, Toru would be devastated. The red-head was also fighting blind in a sense- he might have centuries on Atorey, but he had no clue what the brunette could do, and Valentine had learned the hard way what could come of not picking your fights wisely.
In a split second dicision, the older vampire ran past the two. Grabbing Toru as carefully as he could manage, he bolted, pouring all his energy into running.

One minute Toru was in his brother's loose grasp and the next he was flying. Valentine was running faster than the younger vampire could ever imagine a person to be capable of. His purple hair was tossed about wildly as they zoomed away from his twin. Toru felt a little less burdened but a whole lot more tense. Atorey wasn't going to like that Valentine had scooped him up and bolted.
Atorey had fallen into his twin brother's embrace; he fully enjoyed the attention. When Toru was snatched from his grasp the blue eyed twin snarled. It wasn't in his nature to run about. He knew where his other half was residing now. Though he was immensely angry Atorey knew that instead of giving chase and warring with the much larger and older vampire that he'd have to take the sneaky rout in order to win Toru over.

Valentine ran at great speed for almost a good half hour, focusing on nothing but putting distance between Atorey and his friend. Time had taught the vampire the need for being resourceful. To better hide their trail he crossed mostly rocky ground - he would pray for rain later - and at one point went so far as to travel upstream in the shallows of a large creek before hopping across.
He and Toru reached what appeared to be an old abandoned house near the middle of a wood and he slowed to a stop. Taking the boy inside, he set him down in what looked to be the living room and turned for the door. "I need to go cover a bit more of our trail. Please stay here, Toru. I promise I'll be right back."
Valentine kept his trip outside quick. He saw no signs that Atorey had followed. Carefully but swiftly, he made the traces of their passing disappear. When he returned to the house he approached Toru quietly. "I'm so sorry about that," he said, his brow furrowing slightly. "Are you all right, Toru?"

Tears fell from his green eyes as Toru looked to Valentine. He wasn't all right! The young vampire knew that although he didn't love his brother like a lover, he did love him and now they were apart once again. Part of him was jumping for joy, another part was cowering in fear at the thought of what Atorey would do once he found them and the final part was missing the only family he'd had contact with his whole life. Toru felt as though he had no words; they were jumbled up in his throat and refused to settle.
Atorey returned to his apartment to conjure a plan. He wanted Toru with him, not that over sized Irishman. It was rude of that red-head to snatch away his brother. Still, the Asian vampire had no doubts that he would easily find his twin again. Twins had a special bond that no amount of tampering can break. Even without a trail to go on, Atorey could always just listen for Toru. Eventually he'd feel something that would lead him to the purple haired boy.

Seeing the mixed joy and heart-tearing dismay on Toru's face, the crease between Valentine's glossy red brows deepened. "I'm sorry," he said again, unable to think of a way to comfort his friend. The sun was beginning to rise, and fatigue was beginning to gnaw at the edges of Valentine's consciousness. "It's almost daylight. We'd better get some rest." Turning, Valentine went to the windows of the old house and pulled their heavy drapes closed before making his way to one of two couches.
As he lay down, exhaustion slammed into him. His skin was still deathly pale, his mouth and the skin around his eyes so dark and spooky looking, his red hair a tousled mess. He held his eyes shut. He'd done it again. Wrecked someone else's life with his meddling. But could he let Atorey use poor Toru that way?

Toru laid back and closed his eyes. Tears squeezed passed his lashes every so often. At least now he could sleep without too much worry. Valentine would keep him safe, he was sure of it. The young vampire curled into himself and listened to the sounds of the unfamiliar area. Normally he wouldn't be able to sleep in a strange place, without some form of comfort. Toru normally slept with the blanket he was abandoned with. It was ragged now, worn and grey, but the young man simply couldn't get to sleep without it. It seemed silly, a twenty one year old man sleeping with a 'blankie', but it was all he had to remind him of his family. When he held it, it gave him hope that he'd find his mother and father one day.
Despite this fact Toru managed to drift off.

The day seemed to pass slowly. Valentine tried to sleep as best he could, but to slip from consciousness completely was foolhardy in this case, leaving himself and Toru vulnerable. Off and on he woke, to the sound of a twig hitting the roof or the cursing of a squirrel outside. The sun did not penetrate the curtains, thankfully. The crimson-haired vampire would not turn to ash, but prolonged exposure to light and heat would make him feel ill, and being sunburnt could send him into a mild state of shock.
By evening, Valentine's appearance had returned to normal for the most part. He was paler than normal, still a few shades dark around the eyes, but it wasn't so glaringly obvious or frightening now. His stomach turned as he sat at the bottom of a staircase that lead to the second floor. It had been a little while since he'd been this hungry. The sensation felt as if it crawled up the back of his throat across the roof of his mouth into his permanently elongated canines. It wasn't too bad yet, but the longer he waited the worse it would be.

He'd survived the night. Toru had gotten rest and was still safe, lying on the couch in the strange house. Dust was layered thick on the things around him. Green eyes took in the room without much thought. The skin of his face felt taught and dry from crying so hard. After a moment or so of staring at the empty couch across from him the young vampire sat up and realized that Valentine wasn't there. Had something happened.
Careful steps brought him from the room as he stalked around. Toru hoped that Atorey wasn't here, and if he was, that he wasn't angry. "Balentine?" He called out in a whisper.

Valentine sat almost dead still, his mind chewing on the problem at hand. Atorey had not followed them so far as he could tell. But what the arrogant lout had said was true - twins had an unbreakable bond, and both Atorey and Toru being vampires only strengthened it.
For certain, the red-head knew that he and his young friend could not stay where they were. It would only be a matter of time before Atorey 'felt' their location and came knocking. The building they were in, as old and dusty as it was, wasn't Valentine's ideal stronghold, too hard to defend with so many door and windows. But moving around in the open also put them at risk, for Toru's twin could appear at any time. . . .
"Balentine?" The tentative voice reached his ears and immediatly his thoughts snapped away from planning. Toru stood near the doorway of the small room Valentine was in, and though looking around had not seen the older vampire yet.
"Over here, Toru," Valentine replied calmy. "I'm sorry I left you in there by yourself, but I had a few things I needed to sort out."

Toru walked up to Valentine and bowed. "Thank you." He hadn't been quite ready for the past day's events. Sleeping had helped him sort out his emotions. The younger vampire was still a bit saddened that he'd been taken from his twin but that sadness was over powered by his relief. Toru still had too much to learn about from Valentine to go off with Atorey; besides, he wasn't ready for any kind of relationship with the older twin.
He looked to the floor in a childish way before he asked, "will we have to leave town?" Toru didn't want to. The young man was so close to his parents and yet so far, now even farther. One hand tousled his purple hair and the other traced his lips. After a minute of contemplation he managed a weak smile. "I suppose that okay if you watch out for me Sensai."

The older vampire had to smile. As small and timid as Toru might seem, he was a trooper. In an effort to comfort the boy, he laid his hand on his shoulder. "We're going to go back and get anything we want to take with us, though we'll have to be quick about it. I hate it that we have to relocate but with Atorey so close it's not safe to stay put. I'm not going to run off and leave you." Valentine went over the events of the night before again and a thought came to him. "Toru, thank you for trying to keep Atorey from harming me. Despite himself Toru lifted his head and beamed at Valentine's praise. He was happy that the other vampire was going to take care of him. It was sort of a new experience but it wasn't bad. He'd never depended on others much, preferring to work feverishly in order to prove his worth to them. When he'd been in Japan he'd managed to find work on a farm at a fairly early age. The man and woman that took care of him allowed him to stay with them instead of paying him. They had far too many children and expenses to have to worry about paying some one to work for them. Toru was allowed to stay in a shed they'd turned into a nice room; he ate with them and took care of the other kids like they were his own siblings. When he decided the time was right to leave for North America the man that had taken care of him had paid for his plane ticket. In order to thank him, every month Toru sent them money.
"I have a feeling that no matter where we go, he'll manage to find me." Toru said with a sad smile. "I'm glad you're willing to take care of me. I'm stranger after all. If you don't want to stay after teaching me I won't be angry."

The corner of Valentine's mouth turned up in a half smile. "We'll see when we get there, alright?" He stood and stepped down so he was on the floor as Toru was. Taking hold of his shoulders lightly, he said, "You need to understand something, Toru. Atorey is a bully. He acts big and mean, but inside he's very sad. He's probably gone through something bad and it still hurts him, so he tries to make it so he's scarier than whatever scares him. And he's become used to getting his way by doing this."
His thoughts were interupted when his stomach knotted itself again. He let go of Toru and closed his eyes for a minute. When he was able to refocus, he said, "Alright, we need to get moving. I have no idea where your appartment is, so I'll let you lead. But please, don't get too far ahead of me."

Valentine's words saddened the younger vampire. Toru knew what that bad was. Atorey hadn't been nearly as fearsome before the incident between them. The older twin had always been angry and a bit of a bully, Toru supposed, but now... The young man didn't have time to think it over seriously or discuss it.
Toru lead Valentine back into the city and down toward his apartment. The tiny, dingy, empty space mirrored the house they'd just come from. It was slightly embarrassing, the emotion staining his cheeks red. Atorey was right, living here was shameful. The only room with anything in it was the bedroom. Inside Toru grabbed the folded grey blanket and squeezed it to his chest. He stuffed it in his backpack and lifted it over his shoulders.
After returning to Valentine he said, "I'm ready."

Valentine didn't balk at the sight of Toru's appartment - he himself had stayed in worse places in his nearly 400 years. It surprised him slightly though when the only thing that the younger vampire picked up to put into his backpack was an old, worn blanket. Everyone had things with memories attached, though. The moment Toru returned to the doorway and said he was ready, they were off again.
The trek to the bording house was a short one. Valentine listened at the front door to see if anyone was stirring inside, but no movement could be discerned. He let himself and Toru in to quietly pad up the stairs. There was a quick brandishing of a key and the door to Valentine's room unlocked and opened. The room wasn't anything fancy. A bed and nightstand, a dresser with a mirror, and a set of cubbies. The cubbies, which were originally made for clothes or perhaps something else, were filled with roughly a dozen books. With haste born of habit, Valentine pulled an old leather backpack out from under his bed, putting in it a couple sets of clean clothes and carefully arranging his books within. Pulling the draw string tight and fastening the flap over the opening, he put one strap over his shoulder and they were off.

bic: Toru waited patiently by the door as Valentine packed the items he felt were necessary. His eyes focused on the floor and he rocked back and forth slightly. When they left again, the young vampire felt a wave of unease sweep over him. The older vampire was kind and very informative, but still sort of a stranger to him. He hoped secretly that his way of easily trusting people wouldn't get him into too much trouble. Toru was a pushover and he hung on the words of others with high hopes. So far Valentine had not made any moves to waver his liking or trust toward the man. If all went well things might just start to look up for the violet haired vampire.
As they walked Toru stuck a finger in his mouth, keeping his gaze downward. Despite the reaction he thought he might get the boy reached his hand out and took hold of Valentine's. Going off into the unknown with the thought of his twin looming somewhere close by caused his brow to crease. In his mind, Toru repeated that he wouldn't cry. He was a man now and a vampire he didn't need to be so weak.

Valentine's mind wasn't quite ticking at the pace he would have liked, hunger gnawing at the edges of his thoughts. They had already come a short distance from the city but experience told him to be alert. Easier said than done.
Again his thoughts were redirected when he felt someone, to his surprise, Toru, take his hand. The red-head did not protest, did not turn and snarl at the purple-haired youth. He could feel the aura of unease and uncertainty that exuded from him. Valentine squeezed his hand in reassurance and said calmly, "It's alright, Toru. Lift your chin up a little and look around. It's important to be able to see where you're going."
A moment of easy quiet passed and Valentine chuckled. "Well, since it seems you and I are going to be traveling together for a while, is there anything you'd like to know about me personally? I know I'd be nervous about being around someone I know very little about."
