Doing as he was told, Toru lifted his head and gazed about. Green eyes took in that they were a ways from the city now. When Valentine asked him if he'd like to know anything Toru removed the finger in his mouth. "Well it might just be me but you aren't you today. Different." The young vampire wasn't sure what was wrong with his teacher, was he just worried or was he angry? "Is there something bad?" His violet locks swayed as he tilted his head to the side and looked up at the red-head.
"Also, Balentine, what will I do about blood? Are you going to stay with me when I need it or will I have to go get it alone?" It worried him that he might have to go off alone to feed. He'd promised his twin to not run again, but here he was, leaving behind his goal in order to save his hide and Valentine's from the wrath of his brother.
--
Atorey could tell easily that the two other vampires had skipped town. He wasn't an idiot he knew that Toru was lying when he said he wouldn't run away again. After grabbing a few things he decided he'd better head out and see if he could track the two of them down. It would be easy knowing that they were most likely on foot; he had his Ducati, a red and black beast with shiny chrome accessories. Atorey was fond of his motorcycle and it was about to be his upper hand in the situation.
The motor roared to life and purred like a kitten. The vampire threw his pack over his back and leaned forward speeding off toward Toru's end of town.

"Bravo Toru, you are correct," Valentine said with a smile. "I must admit that I'm a bit off. Getting away from Atorey yesterday used up energy, and I was only half-fed to begin with. I will stay with you when you go looking for blood. I have things I want to teach you, and I need to feed myself as well."
Concentrating for a moment, the red-head reached out with his mind. He felt a slight prickling feeling from the direction they had just come. Atorey - his malice was quite tangible, litterally a bitter taste in Valentine's mouth. He was catching up to them. Quickly, the Irish vampire thought quickly and got himself and Toru on a bus, telling the driver they needed to go as far as he could take them.

The violet haired youth was slightly put at ease when Valentine assured him that he'd be there when feeding. Toru felt slightly for Valentine because he knew the red-head wasn't big on blood but would be placing aside any concerns in order to teach the younger vampire. "I'm glad that you'll stay with me. Will it be soon?" Toru asked with sad and curious eyes. He was hungry, but he wasn't about to tell Valentine that. If the older vampire could take it so could he.
When the older vampire pulled Toru onto a bus, speaking to the driver firmly he became frightened. "Bad?" He asked, "why do we need this?" His purple hair had fallen and shielded his eyes from view. What could possibly be wrong that they couldn't just keep walking away?
--
Atorey had made it passed city limits trying hard to seek out his twin; when he noticed a bus pull away from the side of the road. It could be nothing, or it could be something. The malicious twin picked over his options when a flash of purple and a feeling told him to shadow the vehicle. Blue eyes looked out from the tinted visor of his helmet and a smile formed on his face. I've got you. He thought to himself. A shiver ran up his spine at how close he was to them. Unless the giant oaf could feel his presence, the helmet would mask him from any identification.

Getting them situated in a seat toward the relative middle of the bus, himself by the window and Toru on the inside for his peace of mind, he projected a wave of calm toward the younger vampire. The last thing he needed at the moment was for Toru to panic.
"We will eat as soon as we can, but right now it's not safe. Atorey is very close." He kept his voice even. Stopping to 'feel' again, he said, "He's following us." Glancing out the window, he say a man of small build on a motorcycle. The aura said all he needed to know. Atorey had seen Toru, knew they were on the bus. Valentine faced forward again and began trying to calmly think of a plan.

Toru knew he should be panicking, but he felt unexpectedly calm. When Valentine told him Atorey was on their heels he pulled his knees up to his chest and buried his face in them. So much for a clean get-away. The younger vampire was thinking furiously of how to avoid any bloodshed or hurt if they had another confrontation with the older twin. Hopefully the red-head could come up with a better plan than he could. Toru tried his best to come up with some sort of option to get away. It was almost a hopeless situation. What could they possibly do?
--
Atorey followed the much larger vehicle casually. He didn't need to hurry now that he knew exactly where his target was. Blue eyes searched through the back window to pin-point his twin; the volume of humans sitting near the back did a good job of hiding Toru. Atorey scowled but didn't waver, he'd get to them soon enough.
--
Toru pulled the blanket from his pack and draped it over his head like a hood. If he didn't think quickly they'd surely be caught when the driver called out the end of the line. Being stuck between a rock and a hard place was killing the young vampire. The biggest issue for him was that Valentine might get caught in the cross fire. That was the last thing Toru wanted.
The boy closed his green eyes with a sigh. When he opened them he saw a girl with a purple hat sitting a few seats ahead. They could trick Atorey! Excitement filled him quickly; without much thought he pulled open Valentine's bag and donned one of the larger vampire's shirts. It covered him like a dress and he tied the ends of his blanket tight under his chin. Silently he bit on his finger and moved to sit behind the girl. Being undeniably sneaky, the young vampire dripped some of his blood onto the girl. Hopefully that would throw off his twin's perception.
The bus pulled to the side of the road and a small crowd of people stood to get off.
"Balentine! Come on!" Toru stood and mixed in with the crowd, doing his best impersonation of an elderly woman.

((OCC: Starless, you are brilliant ;D ))
Valentine watched Toru curiously. When what the younger vampire was doing clicked in his mind, he almost laughed out loud. Yes! He was throwing Atorey off their trail!
"Balentine! Come on!" Toru stood and mingled into the group of people getting off. The red head joined him. He reached into his already open bag and grabbed his black news boy style had and put it on, effectively muting his bright red hair. When they were on the sidewalk, Valentine grabbed Toru's wrist and lead him through a couple allies. The two vampires came out a couple streets over from the bus stop.
"Toru, that was impressive. Quick thinking!" Valentine said, not hiding his relief.

The young vampire had never been more proud of himself! He smiled from ear to ear and made a small happy noise. Toru untied the ends of his blanket and stuffed it back into his backpack. "Sorry I intruded." He said blushing slightly. "It was bad of me." The purple haired boy fluffed his locks as he apologized for rummaging through his teacher's belongings without permission. Toru pulled off Valentine's shirt and handed it over. "I did good!" It was the first time in his life that he'd taken control of a situation. The feeling was unbelievable.
--
Atorey was annoyed that the bus kept pulling to the side. When a small crowd stepped off it gave him a clear view of Toru sitting near the front of the bus. He didn't see the red-headed brute but it didn't matter; that was one less obstacle to deal with. A wide grin spread on his face.
[ occ: *bows* why thank you. I'm surprised I could take the upper hand with Toru like that! lololol ]

"I'm not worried about it," Valentine replied to Toru's apollogy for rummaging in his bag with a smile. "It saved our hides and I don't take you as someone with sticky fingers." He replaced the shirt in his bag and zipped it up. "Time for us to make ourselves scarce."
At a pace that was quick but easy for Toru to keep up with, the red-head lead as they zig-zagged their way through the city. They looped, they back-tracked. At one point he went so far as to take them onto the roof of a building and back down the other side. He explained that the more complex their path was, the harder it would be to follow. Finally, several hours later and several miles from where they'd gotten off the bus, they were in a room at a small hotel. Valentine had paid for the room and asked the girl behind the counter to pretend she had never seen them. She had smiled widely at him and agreed.
"That," Valentine said, sitting on the edge of one of the two beds in the room closest to the door, "was more exercise than I care to have under those circumstances."

Frowning Toru slid down to his knees on the floor. "Bad time." He said lifting a hand to swat away purple strands from his green eyes. It was absurd the amount of running about they did. If Atorey could manage to find them after that, Toru would have to congratulate him. Toru crawled over to the bed against the wall and climbed onto it. He was physically exhausted and hungry. Before falling completely asleep he managed to pull out his blanket. The young vampire cuddled his cheek against it and absently stuck his pinkie finger in his mouth.
--
Atorey followed the bus until the last stop. When the purple being exited the vehicle he noticed that not only was it female, but the purple was a hat! Somewhere along the line he'd been duped and it pissed him off beyond all means. Atorey slammed his fists into the handle bars of his bike and let loose a growl. The little prick had managed to throw him off.
The Asian vampire turned his bike around and sped off back in the direction of the city he'd just come from.

Valentine smiled at the sight of Toru sound asleep with his pinkie in his mouth. He went over and tucked the covers in around the younger vampire and then went and stretched out on the other bed. Oh, Saints, he was tired! Down to his last freckle. And adding to his exhaustion was the fact that he still hadn't eaten. He closed his eyes, a soft growl slipping from him. Drat Atorey for throwing off his patterns so much.
When the sun set the next evening, Valentine rose with a groan. His stomach threatened to start gnawing on itself and his fangs ached. Standing and streching, he went over to Toru and shook his shoulder gently. "Hey, kiddo, you need to get up. We need to pack and go find something to eat."

A slobbery hand swatted at Valentine. "Iie 'to-san." He blabbered on in Japanese, half asleep and dreaming, all while pulling the covers over his head. "Sleepy." Toru frowned and buried his face in his soft, old blanket. When his teacher refused to let him stay asleep his green eyes popped open and he emerged from beneath the comforter, his purple hair sticking in every direction. "Balentine..." The young vampire trailed off almost sadly. "I thought you were my father." Reluctantly he threw off the covers and stood; he shoved his blanket in his bag and looked at the red-head expectantly. "Food time?" Toru really wanted it to be food time. His belly was very unhappy and was cursing at him relentlessly.

Part of Valentine truly felt for Toru- the red-head had a very poor relationship with his own father, who had a habit of making himself a public menace back in Ireland. It had been forever since they'd talked.
"Food time?" Toru asked, his expression much like a puppy staring at the person about to fill its dish.
"Yes, food time." Valentine grabbed his bag and lead the way out the door.
His 'radar' told him that they didn't have any unwanted company trailing them. This was good, because the first being to interfere with his breakfast would be a sorry one. His skin had grown paler again and the dark circles around his eyes were making themselves known, though with his angular features and straight nose it didn't look bad.
He reached out with his mind, searching for an ideal donor. A few blocks over, he came across a woman who looked to be on her way home from work.
"Toru, stay put and watch what I do." He lookded around quickly- the street was deserted save the woman, the light dim. As she passed them, Valentine fell into step behind her, shadowing her for a small distance before touching her elbow lightly. She turned and looked at him in surprise, but when he smiled at her she smiled back. He said something to her, making sure to have eye contact, and the woman's gaze glassed over and she stood completely still.
Turning to look at Toru, the older vampire said, "Come and get it, Toru. And please, don't take too much, she has little ones at home." Valentine's stomach knotted itself in hunger, the instincts that lurked around his hunger clawing at him. But he would make sure his student ate before feeding himself.

Toru tilted his head to the side as he watched Valentine work his magic. When the woman smiled back at him and spaced out the young vampire was quite surprised. It looked so easy! The older vampire beckoned for Toru to come and feed. The purple haired vampire frowned like a small child when Valentine said he could only take so much.
Toru walked over to the lady slowly, shyly. His small hands wrapped around her middle and he pulled her in close. He was far too hungry to be patient and bit down with force, sucking back the jet of crimson fluid greedily. Red rivers coursed down his chin and he clung to the woman, his fists becoming lost in her shirt. She sure tasted good. It must have been because she took good care of herself.

Valentine jumped a bit at the force with which Toru sunk his teeth into the woman's neck. In this respect the red-head knew his comrade was still much a child, not quite exercising the same level of control that he did, but the poor boy was hungry. After a time Valentine eased his pupil away from his prey, carefully prying the woman out of Toru's grasp. Holding Toru by the shoulder with one hand, Valentine licked the wound in the female's neck and it closed. In a soft voice he thanked her and directed her to go home to her husband and wee ones and to forget what just happened. Like a drone she turned and complied, continuing in the direction she'd been going.
Taking a black handcerchief out of his pocket, Valentine handed it to Toru. "You may want to wipe your mouth," he chuckled.

Frowning Toru did his best not to swat at his teacher when pulled from the woman. He was still hungry but a lot less worn out now. Valentine extended a handkerchief from his pocket and the young vampire took it gratefully. "Thank you." He said with a small smile. With both hands he rubbed the blood from his chin and neck. Afterward Toru handed it back and thanked the older vampire again.
The purple haired vampire's train of thought shifted. "You made that look so easy. No fair." Toru held onto the straps of his pack and looked to the ground. "I want to someday." With any luck he'd be able to master that type of 'power' before too long.

"You made that look so easy. No fair. I want to someday."
Valentine patted Toru's shoulder. "You should be able to with practice. I did that without using any extra tallents that I have, it just takes time to learn. Now," he said, trying to ignore the wrenching feeling in his stomach, "I need to feed myself. Stay close, but please, don't get too close. I'm afraid my manners aren't always the best when instinct kicks in."
Turning, the red-head strode down the sidewalk, hunger quickening his steps. The dark circles around his eyes had a foothold now, his skin sheet pale as his sole focus shifted to finding food. The older vampire knew he had to eat, but if he focused on anything but that gnawing feeling, his morals would get in his way. He reached out with all his senses, searching. The moment he picked up on something promising he was heading in that direction.
A woman in her mid-twenties had just come out of a bookstore as it closed. He stalked her from a distance, closing in the further she got from the shop. As she came to an alley, Valentine planted the suggestion in her mind to turn into it, leaving no room for disobedience. She turned and he followed. Stand still, he bade her, and she complied. Filling her mind with his and blocking out all pain and fear he took hold of her by the shoulders- the woman would not feel anything, would not recall when he was finished. He tilted her head back and he ducked his head and burried his fangs in the soft skin of her neck. Valentine closed his eyes as he drank, the hot liquid pouring down his throat.
Blood dripped from his mouth when he lifted his head, his blue-grey eyes dark. He licked his lips much as a cat would. Closing the punctures he'd made, he instructed the woman to go straight home, clean herself up, and go to bed. Valentine stood panting slightly when she'd left. He took deep breathes, trying to bring himself back under control.

Toru leaned back against the wall just around the corner of the ally. He let Valentine walk into the ally with the woman alone. His green eyes darted up and down the street, trying to keep watch and occupy himself while his teacher took care of his needs. A small hand ran through his purple hair and he sighed. So much had happened in the past few days; it took a lot of the strength from his body. The young vampire slid down the wall and huddled on the sidewalk, his hands over his ears. Desperately he wanted to find his mommy and his daddy.
Tears welled up and spilled from his eyes, his mind was thinking far too much about the situation he and Valentine were in. A small 'chu' escaped his lips every so often as he sobbed. He wanted to be here with his teacher learning, but he desperately wanted to be with the family he'd never known living a normal life. Toru didn't want to be a vampire any more.

When Valentine had managed to rein himself back in, he left the alley, blue-grey eyes searching for Toru as he wiped his mouth and throat. He found the younger vampire sitting against the wall just around the corner, curled into himself with his face hidden, sobbing. His emotional pain was as tangible to the red-head as if he himself had been slapped.
Quietly, Valentine set down his backpack and sat down next to Toru. He laid a hand gently on his comrade's shoulder. Without asking he knew why his comrade was crying so, but he was at a loss for words. Even having been born a vampire, if not because of it, he knew well that this lifestyle was not something he would wish on anyone for it was a lonely, dark, cold existance most of the time. Nothing he could say would change that. But he would not leave his young friend to cry alone.

When Valentine laid a gentle hand on his shoulder, Toru wiped his eyes and nose on his sleeve and did his best to manage a smile. "Better?" He asked trying his best to pretend he didn't just break down. "Sure feels good. Full belly."
Toru stood and waited for the red-head to do the same. "Where now?" The younger vampire questioned knowing they couldn't loiter in one spot for too long. Atorey could be anywhere, he could just walk out from a wall like a ghost and Toru had thought about that with fear. Sometimes his twin just materialized as if coming from the mist. Perhaps it was part of his vampirisim, or perhaps Toru just wasn't as receptive as he should be. Either way, sticking around was a bad idea.

Valentine felt a surge of pride for his student. In Toru's position, he wasn't sure how he'd fair himself. He was no stranger to being dogged by someone, but being hunted like a deer by a member of one's own family was different. Mentally he let Toru feel this sentiment, not wanting to gum it up with words.
"Yes, I can think straight again. And you're right, we need to be moving on." He stood and slung his bag over his shoulder. Taking his hat off, he slipped it onto Toru's head and lightly poked the tip of his nose with a grin. "Hopefully that will make it harder for Atorey to spot you." With that, he headed them north.

The young vampire smiled genuinely when Valentine put his hat over his purple locks. Though he was proud of his hair, it certainly wasn't good for 'blending in'. With a spring in his step Toru followed Valentine, eager to learn all he could. He also hoped they'd go for some time without catching sight of his twin.
The two vampires managed to cover quite a bit of ground in a short time. They still had a third of the night to travel in and they were far from the ally Toru'd broken down near.

Valentine studied the buildings they passed, trying to get a better idea of what the area looked like over all and note landmarks as they went. They had a few hours in which they could still travel, but he'd feel better if he could spot places to duck in on the way if they had to hole up somewhere. Planning ahead, in his experience, could often be the difference between success and being up to your ears in a sticky situation.
As the red-head contemplated the sun rising, a question occurred to him. "Toru," he asked with one brow raised, "how do you take sun exposure?"

"Sun?" Toru asked bringing a finger to his lips. "Bad I guess. I haven't seen the sun since I became a bampire." The young one figured he'd just burn up if he saw it. Just like the vampires in the movies; turn into dust and blow away in the wind was how he thought about it. The thought caused him to shudder. "I don't want to see."
The young man clutched the straps of his bag tightly as he chewed on his bottom lip. Had Valentine hoped to continue during the day? He felt sort of guilty in holding his teacher back.

"I understand. I was just curious; I myself can walk around during the day, but I have to wear dark sunglasses and the longer I'm exposed to sunlight, the more draining it is and the sicker I feel. And I don't like hot, hot weather, either," Valentine explained. "We'll try to find a place to stay for the day before the sun rises. Heh, I don't want to be out in it, either." It was true that the red-head wasn't completely helpless during the day, but he had gotten "sun poisoning" enough times in his long life to realize his limits.
The two traveled on, making good time and covering ground at a pace Valentine was glad of. He spotted a small boarding house much like the one he'd been staying in just before sunset and made a b-line for it. Talking sweetly to the woman who ran the building, he got them a room for the night.

Toru kept quiet as Valentine went about sweet talking the woman. He hid half behind the taller vampire, slightly frightened by the woman's appearance. The younger vampire was tired and wanted to get to bed as soon as possible.
When the two vampires had gotten into the tiny room Toru took off Valentine's hat and tossed it on the dresser. With a large sigh he flopped on the bed and wrapped the blanket around him like a cocoon. Only the very top of his violet head stuck out. He drifted off for some much needed sleep.

Valentine watched Toru for a moment. The poor guy had all but passed out when he went to sleep. The red-head took a couple pillows off the other side of the bed and stacked them on the floor at the end of the bed. With a sigh, he laid down flat on his back, his head resting on them. He was very tired, too, but the gears in his head were still turning.
As his purple-haired charge had said, he felt better with a full stomach, but. . . . A familiar sense of guilt pricked at his conscience as he stared at the ceiling. He had not severely hurt the woman - she was young and in good health and would recover quickly. She wouldn't even remember Valentine's face or that he had stolen from her. Memories of being soaked in blood floated back to him and he shook his head in an effort to dispell them. For a moment he glanced in Toru's direction. If the younger, soft-spoken vampire could ever see those memories, or worse yet see him in that state first hand, the boy would be terrified.
Valentine let his cool blue-grey eyes fall closed. He had to rest while he could. Forcing his mind to clear, he reached for the deep sleep that wanted to swallow him and took its hand.

Toru slept peacefully, occasionally changing position but not waking. By the time his green eyes popped open, the blanket he'd cocooned himself in was in a heap on the floor beside the bed. His shaggy purple hair was a complete mess; it tickled his nose while he laid there, gazing up at the ceiling. A wide smile came to his face for a moment; that had been a great sleep.
Toru looked to one side and then the other. The young vampire sat up and looked about in the dark. Valentine was nowhere to be seen. He hoped that, like last time, Valentine had simply gone to sit somewhere. Hastily Toru jumped from the bed and made for the door. He didn't see Valentine's legs sticking out from the foot of the bed. Without any grace or poise Toru tripped over his teacher's legs and landed face first on the hardwood.
"Uggh. Ow." Toru complained as he sat up. A little trickle of blood fell from his nose but ceased quickly as his body corrected itself.

"I'm so sorry about that, Toru," he said, his brow knitting as he frowned. "Heheh, I suppose that's what I get for sleeping so deeply that I'm dead to the world." He got his feet under him and stood, helping his pupil up. With a wide yawn he stretched, reaching up to touch the somewhat low ceiling.

Toru said nothing. He was glad that Valentine hadn't strayed but bumping his nose made him sore with himself. The young man was far too clumsy for a vampire. Still he managed a small smile and stood there waiting for his teacher to go over the plan for the long night ahead. Toru didn't really feel up to walking forever once again, but such times demanded the action.
Thin fingers wiped the blood from his upper lip and smeared it on his dark jeans. The purple haired vampire donned once more the hat belonging to Valentine, hiding the locks from the world. Now if he could only change his eye colour, then perhaps they'd have a good shot at dodging any bullets.

Valentine made sure they had everything together before shepherding Toru out the door. He'd slept like the dead, but the thought of traversing the countryside on foot again didn't appeal to him now. After stopping for directions briefly, he marched them to a nearby train station and up to the ticket desk.
"Toru, do you have any preferance as to where we go?" he asked, turning to his pupil. "I'd have to say this beats walking by a mile."
((I'm sorry this is short! I'm trying to get back in the swing of things and not focus on my stress '^^ ))
